AI 226cc vs 232cc Heads
I have a set of 243's that I'm looking to get ported to go on my LQ9 build. I have been I touch with Advanced Inductions, along with TEA and Texas Speed and I'm leaning towards AI.
What's the difference in performance between the 226cc and the 232cc porting? They cost the same as the 226cc porting. The website says:
"This is a slightly larger version of our 226cc CNC work that has consistently outperformed other CNC'd GM castings on the market, as well as most aftermarket casting based heads. The 226cc work being only slightly larger than the as cast port, would often leave some areas in the intake port untouched by the CNC cutting tool. While this is aesthetic and does not negatively affect performance, this slightly larger version will minimize or eliminate these areas of "non-cleanup." Most applications will not be negatively affected by the slightly larger intake port, and LS2's & strokers will pick up another few HP over the standard 226cc CNC work. "
And yet no one seems to be running them and I can't get a straight answer what the difference in performance is.

Email him and ask. AI (Phil) does respond to email's, even if it is a few days later.
I recently had a set of 243's ported and a custom can ground through AI, and they we're professional and easy to work with....and they flat out know their stuff. I gave him my piston spec's (-2.7cc, .175 reliefs) and he milled the heads to 57.5, and spec'd a cam that puts me right where I wanted to be with the DCR. I'm impressed and I don't even have the engine together yet!

Thanks guys. I have emailed back and forth with them a few times, but that's the only question that hasn't been answered in any of the emails. They have been very responsive to my other questions.
The closest I got was that most people running the 226cc are happy.
I'm just looking to find out if one picks up more top end but gives up some bottom end, or if the 232 is only suited to big bore motors, or FI, etc.

It would make sense that the 226cc would make more low end torque/power over the 232cc, but the 232cc will make more top end power? What means more to you? Are you ever planning on building a bigger cube engine? If so, it makes more sense to go with the 232cc heads.

I don't think there's much difference. I think from reading their description of the 232 heads, they have fully ported intake runners mainly for those that worry about the cosmetic portion and don't want spots that have not been touched.
I've seen 226 head runners and some spots are indeed left as cast, so the 232 porting takes those out.

I'll post AI's response when I hear back, because I'm sure someone else will have the same question.
FWIW, in an email to Phil I asked:
Their response:
My follow up question was:
They replied to a couple other q's in the same email, but not that one, so I asked again:
Anyways, I'll let you know what I hear directly from them.
FWIW, in an email to Phil I asked:
Also, I noticed on the site that the 226cc and 232cc cylinder head packages are both listed for $995. Is there any reason someone wouldn't opt for the 232cc package on a 6.0L? Thanks.
As noted on the description for the 232, it cleans up better and in higher revving situations with larger cams there is some benefit. Most are pleased with the 226cc performance.
Is there a downside to the 232's? Are the 226's better in the lower rpm range?
I'm still confused if there's a downside to the 232cc porting vs the 226cc? Could you explain the benefit vs downside of the extra port work?

I heard back from Phil last night:
I waiting for my 243's to arrive from a seller in Texas, and then I'll ship them out for the 232cc work from AI. We had a bit of a blizzard here last night and into this morning, so it may take a few extra days to get the heads to my doorstep.
There should be no downside from running the port, particularly w/ OE style manifold setups etc. The slightly larger port was done because 1. In most cases it should make at least as much, if not another few hp compared to the 226cc work, and 2. Aesthetics. Most guys still go w/ the 226cc work since the theoretical gain is only a few #’s in most applications. Hope that helps!

Yep! We are doing a 6.0 GTO right now that the heads are@AI getting the 232cc port work done! We will be using our SNS Stage 2 cam with these heads so expect results in the next week or two at the most!
