Very nice. Jake, what did you use to center your oil pump when you installed it?

I centered it using some .002" feeler gauges.

I had planned to put the headers, ignition coils, and spark plugs on tonight and run the fuel pump wiring harness up to the front, but it got too cold. So, I'll try that tomorrow.

Then, I'll be very close to being able to fire it (which I'm going to do before I install the trans)... if something is wrong and it won't fire, I'm not fighting that trans more than once. lol

But, if everything fires okay, I'll go ahead and get the radiator and all front accessories done and change the oil. It'll run on the battery for a 15-20 secs... it might not like it, but oh well. I need to see if the fuel pump will prime without the alternator though. If not, I'll at least get it installed too.

And yes. First fire will be with open headers.

In for the NASCAR start vid! Open headers will be fun. Your neighbors will hate you, but it'll sound fantastic!

Maybe tomorrow. If it's too late, I'll wait and do on Tuesday. Then I'll get the trans installed and get the exhaust installed... then throw the rearend back into place with the new rear suspension.

And then... then! I can drive it around a little with Geoff's mail-order tune.

So the 1-7/8" headers slid in no problem passenger side. After getting the car what seemed to be 4 feet in the air, I could get the drivers side in... almost. I went in completely vertical, moved it around, twisted, pushed against the engine. No go.

It was hitting the steering knuckle one way and the firewall another. So, I loosened the steering knuckle and moved it up (which gave just enough space), and beat the ever living **** out of my firewall. Presto. Done. Getting to the spark plugs is now a total nightmare. Luckily, I put them in (but managed to destroy one on the last heave to push the drivers side in). After cursing everything and a trip to AutoZone, the spark plugs are all back in and torqued down.

Now, my question is - did you guys use anti-seize on the grade 8 bolts for the headers? Seems like that would be a wise thing to do. Also, is 18ft-lbs on a two pass sequence correct? That's what it was for stock. That correct for the headers?

Now the eye candy:

I think that's the first time I've heard of someone having to beat their firewall up using Kooks.

It was wedged up against it good. I had just tightened down the pedastal mounts, but I was about to unbolt them and jack the engine up to try and get separation from the firewall... Turns out the massaging worked.

Yes, use anti-seize on your header bolts, preferably high temperature anti-seize.

I used anti-seize on every bolt that didn't require Loctite, sealant or ARP Lubricant.

Quoted for truth.

Yes, I'm out here. Supposed to be going home the 31st, but I might possibly stay on the rig to go to the Bahamas to pick up a new BOP. All 330 tons of it. Depends on when they decide to depart.

Good to know on the anti-seize. I've been of the mindset that if it goes into aluminum, it probably needs anti-seize.

I think I'm the only one that uses it at work. If you aren't concerned about the next guy that might have to take it apart don't use it.

If its a zinc coated spark plug it doesn't need anti seize, this is NGK's advice..
