Cloyes timing chain only from rockauto ok?
Doing a cam swap and ordering some gaskets and such from rockauto and found their ls2 timing chain is a
cloyes #94205.
Links: 60; Pitch: 3/8 in.; Rollers: Single; LS2 Engine
$35
OR the one listed for ls1:
CLOYES Part # 94194
Links: 60; Pitch: 3/8 in.; Rollers: Single; LS6 Engine Also
Would this work fine for a 2002 ls1?

Either will work with the ls1 gears but I would definitely pick up the LS2 chain it is definitely stronger than the ls1 chain. I don't have experience with Cloyes products though, not sure how they stack up to oem.
I got the whole kit (chain and sprockets) from Yank here on site for a little over $70. It's worth it in my opinion.

Cloyes makes the OEM timing sets for GM. Not sure why they list two different numbers as the GM LS1 part was superceded by the later LS2 part. You may want to check Cloyes web site and find out what the difference is. If you can't find it there, call their tech support as they are very helpful.

Cloyes is definitely a good way to go in my opinion.
GM had big problems with early (2000-2003) 2.2L Ecotec engines breaking timing chains. I've fixed probably 10+ Ecotecs and only use Cloyes timing chain with them because they are $30 compared to $90 for the GM chain. I have never had an issue after. They make good products.

Yes they do, but Cloyes provides the timing sets. I believe that Cloyes does the procurement from Renold for the GM sets. I went through this with some interesting e-mails from one of the tech guys at Cloyes when I was researching the IRL chain for my current setup.

Interesting.
BTW, not to steal the thread, but vettenuts, I'm thinking of running the Gold Label Rollmaster with the IWIS double-roller chain. I believe Rollmaster is the only vendor who has this chain from IWIS Ketten. It was either that or the Cloyes with the C5-R/IWIS chain. I'm hopeful my ported oil pump (that has been clearanced for a DR) will actually clear.

The only difference between the Cloyes LS1 timing set and the Cloyes LS2 timing set should be the cam gear as the LS2 uses the cam gear for the cam sensor . The LS1 has been updated to the LS2 timing chain so unless Cloyes is selling old stock the LS1 should have the LS2 chain in the set . Also I agree that the Cloyes LS2 set is a good unit ,,,,I bought 1 from Rock a cpl years ago for $28
