Default My official 408 build thread!

After 2 years of one non operational 1999 hugger orange Camaro SS I am pleased to bring you my 408 build thread. I will start with the carnage, my stock bottom end 346 with ported 241's and a TSP torquer v2 spun #7 rod bearing.

The new motor

Livernois motorsports street series iron 408 with -8 cc pistons, forged rotating assembly and ARP 2000 rod bolts.

Advanced Induction 243 casting 232cc heads with BTR .660 springs milled to 60-62cc. .040 gasket for 11.8 SCR

Tick Performance what is soon to be their Street Heat stage 2 stroker cam for cathedral port heads. (I'll let Martin chime in if he would like on the specs as the stroker cams are not released yet)

Stock rocker arms with the comp turion upgrade, hardened push rods (will measure for length).

LS7 lifters for now, still weighing my options here. Your input is welcome and appreciated.

JP billet single row timing chain

TSP 1 7/8 headers would like to run a dual exhaust system but the kooks system is too pricey and the TSP duals will probably be too loud. Open to suggestions...

I will be running my existing slightly ported LS6 intake with ported stock 76mm throttle body for now. 102 FAST for next year.

racetronix plug and play with hot wire kit

42 lb injectors

The rest of the drive line

Monster stage 3 single disk clutch stock drive shaft and a 12bolt with 4.10 gears.

I'll be interested to hear about that Livernois 408. They have it listed for a good price.

Good. N/a is my favorite and I love the simplicity. You should put out around 530-550 rwhp ;-)

I will be headed to Kalamazoo this weekend to visit my old roommate.

Oh, he has a powder coating over in the pole barn and I will just happen to bring some chevy orange powder and some cool additives to play around with...

Needless to say I should have some nice eye candy to post up Sunday or Monday.

I think the stock LS6 intake is going to keep him from those numbers until he upgrades the intake. I don't really believe in Fast intakes for stock cubic inch engines until CNC ported heads have been installed, compression has been maximized, exhaust is set-up the best it can be etc. etc. On a stroker engine though it's definitely worth much more power than on a stock cubic inch engine.

With the LS6 intake and 76mm TB I see it making 500rwhp and 475-480rwtq. With a port matched Fast 102/102 I can see it making 530rwhp/490rwtq+.

Camshaft will be 243/250 .62x"/.61x" 113+4. Should work really well in this application and make great power with the cylinder heads being used.

I would be extremely happy with 500rwhp, 475tq. I know there is a lot left on the table with that intake setup...
I figure I will get the hard stuff done first, shortblock, heads etc. The intake can be changed out in an hour or 2.

I strongly agree with you Martin. More cubes need more air. Great build anyway and great progress. I'm keeping up with your build

Awesome build man. Just run some local shop's custom made true duals with a Magnaflow X-Pipe on some Borla XR-1 mufflers.

That's something i'm probably leaning toward. Maybe even going with the TSP system and having them extended and adding the Borla XR1's....

I was also looking into those, I sent Brian a e-mail last night to see what would best lifter for my valve train set up.

lobes are stated to be a mix of LXL,LSL and HUC. Stock rockers with the comp upgrade. BTR .660 springs with Ti retainers. Valves are Manley race masters weighing in at 103g on the intake and 87g on the exhaust.

Your lobes on your camshaft are LSL intake and LXL exhaust.
