Default Lq4 low oil pressure and a knock??? Please help.

So I purchased a LQ4 at the end of September 2012 to swap into my jeep. I was able to hear the motor run and everything before I purchased it. Everything sounded great and checked out. So yesterday I finally get the swap all finished and ready to fire up. I start it up and in about 30 seconds it starts to knock really loud and only has about 25lbs of oil pressure. The knock sounds like its right in the front down low. I immediately turned it off. Prob ran for less than 3 min.We drained the oil expecting the worse and the oil looked brand new still. Before I put the motor in I put a car oil pan and pick up on it. We yanked the pan after draing the oil and the pan was clean. We checked the infamous pick up tube oring and it was fine and seated correctly. But we replaced it with a new red one anyways. Put it all back together and filled it up again and it still knocks. I'm thinking bad oil pump?? Would it sitting with out oil for 7 months cause the pump to go bad? Any suggestions or thoughts on what else it might be? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you have 25lbs of oil pressure, the pumps obviously no bad. You probably have bearing troubles. Pull the motor and tear into it.

Check all your pulleys, etc. before you tear it down. Use a stethoscope if you have a chance. I know you said the sound came from the front of the engine, but it's almost impossible to locate sounds on an engine while it's in the engine bay. One other thing to check is flexplate/flywheel bolts - anything you might have removed and bolted back in place. Good luck!

If it was a bad bearing or something like that wouldn't there be metal and all sorts of metallic shavings in the oil? There's nothing in the oil. That's why I'm confused...

Maybe the lifters need more run time to pump up?

The guy that sold it to you may have used the old "thick oil" trick on ya! Sitting with out oil for seven months on a used well ran engine should not be an issue, If all you did was change the pan and pick up and did it correctly sounds to me like you may be a victim of thick oil trickery!!!

I checked the oil when I was looking at the motor before I bought it and it looked good. I was the one that drained in it from the old pan and it definitely wasn't a thick oil by any means. I guess I'll just have to start by removing the serpentine belt and running it then the Trans and just kinda go from there...

agreed you have more than enough oil pressure at idle. does it run well even though it knocks?

I don't know. I haven't even reved it up. It hasn't ran for more than 3-4 mins total. I'm to scared something is garbage and its going to ruin the rest of it. I don't know what to do besides removing things one at a time and seeing I there is something else causing it...

And on a cold start shouldn't it have somewhere around 50-60 psi?

Yeah you should have 60 cold normally. 25 is too low something is way wrong someplace.

25 is way low on start up idle... you should be closer to 50-60 range (depending or wear of the motor) if you spun a rod bearing you wont necessarily have any metal shavings at all. Did you prime the motor before started it?

9 times out of 10, when you hear the knock, its too late and you spun something. You know the difference between lifter exhaust ect.. and the dreaded rod or main knock.

Well I drained the oil again last night after we originally replaced the oring and there is metal in the oil now. So I guess I'm fawked. I guess I'll tear it out and start tearing it down... FML!
