Default c5r chain on stock ls6 timing gears

Im trying to decide which chain/ gears to go with for my 01 z06 cam swap. Ive been reading that the ls2 chains have alot of slack on the stock gears but i was wondering if anyone has used the c5r chain on the stock ls6 gears. My last resort is this http://texas-speed.com/p-3930-cloyes...-bolt-cam.aspx but its a little more than i want to pay. I guess you get what you pay for though. Thanks

I had the same question. I think it'll be okay, but having adjustability is worth it.

I went overkill and got the Rollmaster Gold Double Roller. It's less than the C5-R chain is by itself, but is on billet, hardened gears and uses a hand-matched IWIS chain like the C5-R. It just requires some clearancing of the oil pump to fit.

C5R chain on stock timing gear is fine, unless they show some wear.
It would be better if you got new timing gears to go with it though.
Just so you know, the C5R chain has almost as much slack as the LS2 chain.
I have bought 2 C5R chains, one for my SS and one for my LS6 V, and they both had slack.
I recommend that you buy a timing chain damper if you don't have one already.

Honestly I got mine from Yank. LS2HD chain, billet gears with adjustable crank gear for degree'ing, and it even came with a torrington bearing. It was like 87 dollars shipped, and they have sold HUNDREDS.

I was surprised how much slack my LS2 chain had in it after 8k miles.

If I remember correctly someone came out with a timing chain dampener to use on LS1's that you didn't have to drill holes to use the LS2 version. I can't remember where I saw it though.

55 pages worth of sale. Not a single failure, mine included. With the new gears, I had no slack in mine.

Ah okay. You said Yank and I was a bit confused but now im following.

Im not trying to highjack the OP here but I got some questions. I was going to order the c5r chain but why spend all the extra coin if people say that there is slack with that chain? I guess it is obvious to me not to buy it. Or am I reading to much into this?

As far a the link you posted to the Yank thread. Whats the difference in the LS2HD chain and the LSA/LS9 chain? Is one stronger than the other? Will either of these chains fit under the stock cover? Will they have slack? Yank said they are sold out of the billet gears so what is the benefit in buying new gears just because of wear and piece of mind? Thanks for you help.

Just to add a bit here...if you plan on doing sustained high RPMs, get a ATI dampner - no matter how good the chain is, it's not going to hold up long to crazy harmonics/vibrations.
