Default H beam rods vs I beams?? ideas

I need you guys' ideas on what rods. I was going for the callies I beams. Someone told me that the H beams would hold just fine. Looking to build an engine that will hold at least 1000 HP so I won't have problems. Anyone suggest good rods to hold that power?

I prefer callies I beams or oliver for NOS/FI. If i were building an NA or DD i wouldnt hesitate to use either I or H. There have been many debates on the subject on the design characteristics specifically but in reality it boils down to what you prefer and feel comfortable with. Callies compstar forged I beams will do the job IMHO - if you never want to worry about it then go oliver.

Check out MGP as well if you're willing to make the investment. Oliver and MGP are the top dogs in connecting rods. Bar none some of the best. You will want to watch for clearancing issues with MGP though - they are stout. I have always preferred oliver for fitment preferences but MGP is just as good depending on your requirements.

Would you know other than the rod length. (Which I know what size I need) what other sizes for the crank journal size I need? It's either 2.100 or 2.000. Or would it depend on the crank?

Pretty sure i remember it being 2.100 as the LS1 manual (which you can download off of the site somewhere if i remember) stated something a little bit less than that. If it were 2.000 then that would have meant the lesser value would have been in the high 1.900's and that is not right at all. I am sure someone else will chime in and verify but without re-downloading the GM manual that is what i recall.

If you're building a 1000HP motor then you most definitely want to mic each journal for verification, consider rod deformity, and bearing clearances individually.

Are you comparing the speedway series to the compstar or the Ultra?

I know Callies puts more constraints on the molecular structure of their steel blanks and their Ultra rods are shot peened for oil excursion/minimizing fracture sources. I do not have experience with Callies Ultra's but they look great. Definitely give both vendors a call if you have further questions. It would be hard to make a wrong choice between either one at that level.

Callies Ultra I-Beam, Oliver I-Beam, or GRP Aluminum rods.

Any of those would work.

I'd run the Callies if you're really pushing 1000rwhp or the GRP rods. Oliver are good, but they aren't the best.

Jake at Jakes Performance just finished a 2,400 HP 509 BBC with a 100mm+ procharger using oliver rods for his drag week motor.

The oliver rods are made from billet blanks. They can handle 1000 no problem. As mentioned before the OP should call both vendors if any further questions arise.
