Will GM MLS head gaskets work on a 2001 Trans Am??
Hi all, I have a slow head gasket leak (losing coolant, puffs white sweet smelling smoke on startup, and idles a little rough when cold). I need to fix this before it gets worse. So can I use the GM MLS head gaskets that are listed for 2002-2004 LS1s on my 2001? Will it change the compression ratio?
I heard that MLS is better than graphite... can handle more power and it's not a bitch to clean off when I hopefully get the opportunity to put some awesome heads on the car. I have a light bolt-on 2001 Trans Am with the LS6 block. Thanks!

on the earlier LS1 heads the 853s i think they have an indentation on the head itself, if you have this indentation you MUST you use the graphite gasket or you will have sealing issues

K thanks guys. This is weird... It never ran weak, never mixed coolant and oil, never overheated. Pulled the plugs today.. cylinder 7 (last on driver's side) told the story. Pretty sure it's a little coolant seeping in there after it sits overnight then you see the plume of white smoke on startup. Happened after I replaced my old, original radiator cap. The spring was so weak it wouldn't go up to the stock 18 psi. So the gaskets started seeping coolant when the pressure built up. That's my theory anyways lol
