who's running bronze guides with stock rockers?
I've searched for a long time now and the information I'm reading is very inconclusive. Specifically, Im considering some trick flow heads and they suggest roller rockers because of the bronze guides. But what about all the other heads with brass guides? Have any of you had an oil consumption problem due to brass valve guide wear on trick flow heads or any others?
I'd prefer to save the money for now if I can get away with running the stockers with trunion upgrade. The car gets driven about 1-2k miles a year.
Any thoughts or info is appreciated!

I've got about 6k miles on my stroker motor with AFR heads, bronze guides, and stock rockers with Comp bearings. The cam is a .566/.571, 224/228 with XE lobes, and I don't spin past 6k.
The engine had an oil consumption problem from day 1, and I'm convinced it was a PCV related issue. I've been making improvements to the PCV system and the consumption is getting better.
I don't think the oil consumption is due to any wear in the bronze valve guides for the following reasons:
1. The oil consumption was happening with the brand new motor, the guides would take time to wear.
2. The valve seals all still look new.
3. Engine oil analysis shows normal levels of Tin.
Sometime this winter I'm planning to remove some valve springs and inspect the guides close up just to be sure. That should tell me more.

AFR heads, .631 lift on both, no issues at all. I'm sure down the line there will be, but that's fine. Heads might go to FTI for porting this winter. I'll have Ed check them out then. In the meantime the only oil I'm losing is the 3-4 tablespoons my catch can gets between oil changes.
I bought the heads used, around 5k miles, and I've put 5k on as well.

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys.
Thats kind of the point of this thread....
So, if others "recommend" it is it ok to not run the rollers? AFR heads use bronze guides right? The ONLY mention I see anywhere on their website of using rollers is on the 245cc head it says that it is "roller rocker friendly", which to me certainly isnt a recommendation and down below in the specs on their website it lists stock rockers and YT. Doesnt make any sense??

AFR recommends roller rockers for all their heads.
If you're concerned about it, you could always custom order a set with PM guides. It would likely be little if any additional cost.
