Default Reinforcing The Rear End

Prior Turbo Buick owner, but will have another one day. I've got a 98 SS M6, first LS1 car. Anyway my car is producing 410rwhp and I'm looking to reinforce rear end. It's got 243 (Z06 heads), and a futral F14 cam. What are some good upgrades for the rear in these cars?

Thanks for the help,
Mike

Moser 12 bolt or 9 inch. There is no real way to reinforce the stock fbody rear.

Not true, a diff cover with a girdle is a good start. My 10 bolt survived the 383 torque through an M6 for a good bit until the rear end input yoke twisted apart... differential survived the event.

And OP, try the gear/rear end section a little further down the page. This isn't quite a gen 3 internal engine topic

Agreed, there are some people that have built 10 bolts with some luck, they still break in the end. If you plan on drag racing with a good tire it will need to be changed out.

If you have a 10 bolt the fuse is lit on that bomb. Its going to blow it is just a matter of time. Save your money on trying to upgrade a 10 bolt. It just makes it more expensive when it comes apart. If you want to be bullet proof get a S60 Dana or a 9 inch. They won't break. A 12 bolt can be broken. I've see a few of them come apart over the years.

Actually we do care. Otherwise what's the point of having all these sub forums when we can just have one big one with people to post about anything from stereos to wheels to engines to suspension to fueling...

Which would be the strongest but lightest aftermarket differential that would be a direct swap without causing issues with the ABS or stock brakes?

I had my 10 bolt freshly rebuilt with 4.10 motives.. solid pinion spacer and mac girdle. Quiet as a mouse... after first trip to the track I made 3 passes on drag radials with a best 60ft of 1.8 and it was screaming again. Do not waste your money. 8.8/9inch/s60.

If you want to get great 60ft times your going to be doing 5000 + RPM banzai launches. To do this get a REAL rear end. Otherwise we are just jerking off in this thread.

PS It will take 5000 + RPM launches to lay down great 60ft numbers. It is kind of put up or shut up when you want to go fast with a manual transmission. A phuchin 10 bolt will not cut it period! IT WILL BLOW THE PHUCH UP!! Nuff said...

Doing burnouts on the street with street tires is one thing. Put some sticky tires on it and go to the track and do some hard launches and see how long it lasts.......nuff said

The 10bolt isn't that bad. Do some tasteful weight reduction to help it. Slip the clutch a little to load the car before you hammer it on the launch, use 3.90 gears( they're stronger than 4.10's) and weld the axle tubes. I pull 1.7 60's on it w/o welded tubes......but I break axles so that's why the tubes need to be welded.

I have a sheet metal 9 inch with an aluminum centre section. I had the shop press on the original backing plates so the brakes stayed the same. I was told that this weighted 10lbs more the the 10 bolt.

I think LPW makes a axle brace kit for the 10 bolt to help stop deflection.

I had a 01 Z28 with a beefed up 10 bolt that lasted 4 years of racing and 1.5 short time. But mine was an auto, I went 3.73 for awhile got tired of the whine and went back to 3.23s (micronite treated).
With a M6, I would not bother, decide what you'll be using the ride for and get a rear accordingly. I've been impressed by some 8.8 setups I've sen over the years.
