Default Gauging interest- Need some help pricing :(

Hello all so I have a dilemma, I am putting a new motor setup for boost in my car and wondering what to do with the old. The guy who wants to do the swap (Only a swap) said he would take the motor and do it for free. My challenge is its a perfectly running motor, with 65k on it. It has a cam and puts down some nice horsepower. Its a 2002 WS6 TA LS1 with cam. Check out the attached bill and dyno.

Anyway what do I do? I dont know what its worth, I believe the deal is not a good one but wanted to get all your input.

thanks!

I bet he would take it free of charge!!!And I bet all he is going to do is swap the engine leaving you to hook everything else up and figure it out.

It all depends on how complete it is and what someone is willing to pay for one. I see them listed anywhere from $1500 to $5000 for a complete one.

A long block is not worth as much as a complete swap over with all the wiring.

If you can't get at least 1500 for yours, then your doing something wrong.

It would be the motor minus the alternator, power steering pump, coils, wiring harness.

Including the throttle body, PCM, intake.

So I'm not sure but I'm almost certain it's not a fare deal..

The question is if you didn't give him the motor how much would he charge?

This would help evaluate if its worth it or not.

Makes sense, but my followup would be what is going rate to swap a motor?

Friends of mine that have had cam swaps from ls1tech sponsors range from 1000 to 1500 for install.

So my guess would be 2k, but that's simply a guess bc I have always done my own labor.

This would be to pull the 5.7l out and put the new lsx 427 in

Swapping an engine is not an easy task. It could rack up some labor charges in a hurry. If the guy is reputable and is going to do a complete job and is experienced at it...I would say that's a good trade. An LS1 that's basically stock, no harness, no acc. is worth about $1000-$1500. The market for used LS1s is dropping...people want the bigger cubes now. I was quoted about $800-$1000 to swap a SBC in an old car...A 4th Gen is a little more labor intensive.

Ask him what his rate would be...
