Default Choosing cam...help appreciated

So to start off I know very little about cams. I read the cam guide sticky and have an idea on what kind I may want to get. However I would like some outside opinions and thoughts on what would be best for my set up and goals. My car is a 96 with a 2000 LS1/T56 swap. Bolt-on list includes BBK headers and ory-pipe, LS6 intake, P&P throttle body, Magnaflow catback, and CAI. Basically there are three main criteria I would like to meet with the first two being the most important.

1.) Excellent street manners/low rpm drivablility
2.) Work with my 3.42 gearing
3.) Around ~390 rwhp

Also if anyone knows of any good sponsors or shops near the NYC area to do the install and dyno tune that would be great.

Thanks,
Charles

Contact Mike or Stry at New Era Performance in NY and ask them for the SS-TQ grind and all the matching peripherals.

Ok thanks for the input. Do either of you have experience with these cams? Maybe a dyno graph?

I have Ed's Streetsweeper HT in my car (mods in sig) which is bigger than the sstq he mentioned and it runs great. Drive ability is fine and that was one of my concerns as i have an auto.

The best way is to call a reputable vendor(s) and see what they suggest, they can give you details in what to expect in sound, drive ability, etc... Tick, Pat G, Texas Speed, Vengeance, etc...
These guys are pros and will give you all the answers you need.

Charles,

We have many camshaft packages available for your application that will fit your needs. For your goals, I would suggest our VRX3 camshaft with the Vengeance Racing Cam Kit Plus . The VRX3 will get you to your power goal, while providing excellent drivability, power from 1700-6700 RPM, and a lopey idle.

The Cam Kit Plus provides you with the VRX3, Vengeance Racing 5/16th Hardened Pushrods, BTR .660" Lift Dual Spring Kit, C5R Timing Chain, Melling Hi Volume Oil Pump, Comp Cams Trunion Upgrade, GM Front Cover Seal, GM Front Cover Gasket, GM Water pump Gasket Set, GM Crank Bolt, and ARP Cam Bolt.

This package can be found here for $1,269.99 . Give us a call at 678-513-7105 or e-mail us at sales@vengeanceracing.net for more information.

That's a well thought out kit with the C5R Chain, Melling pump, and Trunion upgrade.

223/230 .614"/.573" 111lsa

Great idle, small enough to make great low end power and drive well, but still large enough to meet your rwhp goal.
