Default new shortblock break in and hp

I'm just curious if there is a hp/tq increase on a new motor as it breaks in over time. Anyone know? I'm not talking about the initial break in procedure, but more like 100's or 1000's of miles later. Reason I ask is because my buddy told me that he gained about 20 hp on the dyno (same dyno both runs) a few thousand miles later after his new shorblock with no other changes to the car.

Thanks man! Does a 20 hp increse over a few thousand miles sound pretty normal for a new shortblock in your opinion?

Yeah, that seems likely. They are always tight until they get some miles on them.

Just the same with gas mileage too, it goes up on a new car after everything breaks in.

Thank for the responses guys! Chevybaboy, I basically started the car for about 20 mins, giving it light throttle and whatnot, then took it for a really easy short drive, then changed the oil, and that was it. Oh I almost forgot to mention that I had a base tuned flashed for the car as well until I could get it to the dyno

Well it made 420 rwhp n/a, and around 500 rwhp on a 100 shot on a really stingy Mustang dyno and a brand new motor. From what I hear this combo should be good for 450-475 n/a and 530-550 rwhp on the nitrous on your average Dynojet dyno.

I'd like to think my 46,000 mile WS6 is in his prime.

My 145k mile shortblock should be plenty loose.

Though, it looked like the rings were sealing pretty well. When I flipped it over hardly any oil leaked by the rings... lol
