Question 408 Stroker Help

Okay first off sorry if this is in the wrong place. Now what are the specifications for the 408 stroker? I know they are generally built off LQ9 motors but I don't know the difference in the bore stroke and that type of stuff. Also is it fine to use a LQ4 motor to build a 408 stroker? Please give me the run down on this.

A 408 stroker is a steel 6.0 block bored .030 over , a 4.00 stroker crank 6.125 rods and pistons . A lq4 is the same as alq9 just the pistons are different .

So the stock 6.0 bottom end can not be used?

Nope. Crank, rods, and pistons should be replaced.

You probably could reuse the rods, but it would probably cost just as much to use a decent aftermarket rod.

You can't reuse the rods for stroker they are too short

Wisecos are designed for either 6.125" length or 6.098". The problem would be the pins.

How much abuse this engine is going to take will dictate how expensive everything will be. Bottom dollar budget build I would say a Callies C Series crank, Scat I beam rods, and Wiseco pistons would get you there and hold probably 600whp.

Okay I was looking at Callies cranks, and I'm assuming your talking about the Compstar C Series cranks correct?

For a good budget engine that won't see more than 150-200 max nitrous or just N/A use I'd recommend a Manley Pro series 4" stroke crank, Scat H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts and Probe 4.030" bore pistons with Wiseco GFX rings(steel top ring).

This is what we use in our budget engine packages for the most part.
