oil pump pickup tube bolt
Ok. I'm not sure if I'm posting in the proper place or not but here it goes.
I'm doing a cam swap and also doing oil pump and timing chain. I'm following ls1howto to the letter and I'm having an issue with the oil pump pick up tube bolt.
In the how to pictures it appears he dropped the oil pan quite a bit. I dropped mine to the point of hitting the k-member and I can barely fit one finger between the p/u tube and the oil pan.
My fear is dropping that bolt into the oil pan. Another question is if by chance I get it out how the heck am I going to get it back in??
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Drop the pan as far as possible (which you have) and jack the motor up as far as possible. This means to loosen the motor mounts.
I'd loosen the bolts from the pedestal to K.
Get it off with your fingers for the last few threads. Same with starting it. Use your fingers.

Thanks for the help. One question though. What would I put the jack on to raise the engine when I did my long tunes I put it in the oil pan but seeing as how I need that to be dropped that won't work.

i didnt have to mess with the motor mounts on any oil pump swap ive ever done. I just use a ratcheting wrench on that bolt. I shove a few red rags in the front of the oil pan so if i drop the bolt it wont go into the pan. With all the bolts out of the pan there is actually quite a bit of room for me lol. But i do work on helicopters and they are designed by idiots so im used to working on impossible to reach bolts.

I finally got it in. I took the alternator off and took the main bolt out of the motor mount and jacked the motor up that way. Dropped the pan a bit more and by the grace of God it went in.
Thanks for all of the help guys.

I fully agree!! The other hole would be so easily to get to but nooooo. GM wants to tuck everything away so it's impossible to get to. LoL. Oh well. It's what make these cars enjoyable to work on.
