Default Heads/Intake for Tsunami

Picked up a Tsunami cam for a bargain, and plan on putting it in stock bottom end LS1. Would ported 243's be better than say 5.3L heads? Not wanting to fly cut if I can get by without it. Looking for a semi "budget build" setup. Guess I'll go with the LS6 intake, if its sufficient. The car already has all bolt ons and 150-200hp nx wet kit. Just looking for recommendations on what head/intake/injector combo would work good with the existing setup, and possibly what kind of HP numbers Id see. Thanks!

I would hit up Texas Speed and see what they say, but I can bet you they will say their PRC as cast heads would be the best, and budget friendly. LS6 Intake will work, but not near as well as a FAST intake/TB setup.

I just don't get people's logic. Why not at least give Texas Speed a call, or shoot Lonnie or one of the other guys a PM.

Thanks for the info. My "logic" is trying to save a few bucks. I found a set of 5.3 heads, and a set of 243's used for a decent price. I was just hoping to find out which one might be better. I hate to call Texas Speed and bother them when I have no intentions of buying heads from them, simply because I cannot afford/don't want to pay a new price for them...again, thanks for your help. BTW, isn't that what the forums are for, to help educate each other on areas that we may or may not be fluent in?

Yes, you are correct. I just suggested calling Texas Speed because I know those guys are very nice, and even if you bought the cam used, it's still their cam that they designed and created, so they would know if 5.3 or 243 heads would work better with it. They are also a sponsor here on LS1tech, and are always in this section answering questions. They are very nice guys and would help you out regardless if you're buying heads from them or not.

Yes, this forum is to educate people, and you are free to ask any questions you'd like to. I just posted up those links because dyno numbers and ET's with that cam, paired with different heads, seems to be what you were looking for. From what I've seen, most have best results with the PRC 2.5 CNC ported 243 heads, so if it were me, I'd go with the 243 castings and have them ported down the road if money allows.

If you are talking ported 243's vs 5.3's, then they will make a little more power, but not much.

Thanks to both you guys! I appreciate the help. I did not want you all at TSP to think I was yanking you around and gonna buy something when in reality, I have a friend that has both castings and is basically letting me take my pick on them. I did at least get the cam from you haha!!

Think I'll go with the 243's and the LS6 intake. He has the TB and rails to go with, and the rockers have the trunion upgrades, so should be a good package. I will only have to swap my current valvesprings over to the 243's. Anyone near Tn here that does a good job porting/polishing?

If you want to save as much as possible you could practice on your stock heads and then port the 243s yourself. More than likely any machine shop would charge you 500-600 to basically just make them look ported. I've seen several of these machine shop hand jobs that didn't even port the entire runner. They would just scratch up the first few inches and send them out. I'd rather send them to someone like TEA or AI and pay a few hundred more and actually see a gain if I wasn't gonna port them myself. TSP may even port your heads, if so that'd be the route I went.
