Default 2 broken rods, disassembly pics

Bought a 98 Camaro to part out, knowing it had a broken rod. I kept the t56 and all the external engine parts/accessories to go on a LQ4 long block. I finished parting out the car and profited $75 and still have all the parts I wanted to keep.

I was a little surprised to see this engine had been rebuild but it was painted and had these things on it, so dead give away it'd been rebuilt. Considering all the aftermarket parts on the car, it's too bad the engine was stock

Took the pan off the LS1 to get it ready to go on the LQ4, here's what I found

I wondered if the rods or bolts broke but all 4 bolts were in tact

pistons

I was hoping it had a good cam in it but it was just stock, pretty scratched up anyway so I'm glad it was just stock lol

cylinders all dinged up

crank took a beating

both sides of the block look about like this

Now that's how you blow up a motor right there.

Yeah it'd be interesting to know what he was doing when it broke

Trying to get away with spraying a 500hp shot on a stock motor? I honestly don't know if Id be proud or ashamed that I was able to do that kind of damage to an LS engine.

At one point the car had a Vortec super charger on it. I don't know when along the way that was removed, but the bracket was still on the engine. The kid I got it from wasn't the guy that built it and I'm assuming it ran when he had it and the SC was already gone at that point. Seemed like a young kid that didn't know what he had or any of the parts on the car. I'm wondering if he just revved it too high or missed a shift

Because both pistons broke at the pin bosses, I'd say the rings stuck due to excess heat/inadequate clearance...
