Default oil bypass valve

We did an LQ4 swap in to my 02 Trans Am. Engine is a new GM replacement engine for an 02 truck. The rocker arms were upgraded with the Comp Cams trunion kit and Manley stock length push rods. Lifters and cam are stock LQ4. After about 2500 miles, the engine has developed some valve train noise at startup, goes away after warm up. Not to worried since these engines tend to be noisy. I have changed oil and filter twice since the initial startup. Using full synthetic 5w-30 and Wix filters. I was reading thru the shop manual and it states to check/replace the oil bypass valve for noisy valve train symptoms. Doesnt seem to be a part that is in the LS1 engines and is specified for LQ4 with oil cooler. I dont have the oil cooler installed. On an LQ4, the oil cooler lines are attached to a fitting , in the block, above the filter. Should I remove the valve or doesnt it come in to play if there is no oil cooler?

Maybe they're talking about the oil bypass valve in the oil pump? Is oil pressure good?

It is actually located in the oil filter adapter. Here is a pic http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,cata..._25014006.html
Oil pressure is good 60 psi cold and drops to 45-50 warm at idle. Jumps right up to 60 psi as soon as it gets off idle.

If you're using a Wix filter then you do not need/want that bypass valve...

Or, how are you using it exactly...?

Since this is a truck replacement engine, I am assuming the valve was there from the factory build. That is really my question, since I am not running an oil cooler do I need the valve, is it hurting anything, what happens if I just remove it ?

Can I ask why you wouldn't want to run this in conjunction with a WIX filter? Also, when bypassed, where does the oil end up?

Good question. I think that all the Wix filter provides is the anti-backflow feature, so that the oil doesnt drain back in to the crankcase when the engine is shut down. Question is what does the oil filter bypass valve do? Does it send oil past the oil cooler in case of a blockage? I dont know and that is what I am trying to find out. What does it do, do I need it if there is no oil cooler, etc.?
