Default Rockbouncer 408 build

Hoping to be starting on a new motor for next year of racing. I am getting ready to build what I hope to be a nasty 408. Going to start of with a stock 6.0 iron block some Callie stuff in bottom end weisco on top and maybe a set of Frankenstein heads or trick flow with some nice solid roller to top it off with. Why go with solid roller you ask well everyone keeps trying to sell me on hydraulic stuff but what they don't understand is this motor may bounce off the rev limiter for minutes on end and I don't think hydraulic will like that at 7k rpm. I have included a pic of what it will be going in.

Looks like a really cool project. This one and the one where the guy is building an LSx pull truck really liven this place up.

It has 2.5ton Rockwell front and rear steer axles built PTC powerglide and a 4 speed atlas which soon may be a straight gearbox or a trailworthy fab tcase. Getting tired of breaking the atlas tcases

What type of intake/TB setup are you thinking? A Super Victor with a 4150 TB would be killer on that thing.

At bare minimum it will be a long runner cathedral port truck intake ported or the carb with a throttle body setup depending on how much scratch I can put together. The motor alone is going to be a pretty penny but it's not something often seen a solid roller ls engine in a buggy if it is a solid roller it is usually a big block

What is the ups and downs or running the carb style intake verses the ls3 ported intake

You mean the cathedral truck intake. Well, there is a lot more poeer potential with the single plane intake and the single plane intake won't stall out in the upper rpm range like a truck intake, ported or not. With the right cam, I see no downside to a single plane/4150 TB setup, especially with a solid roller. I assume you want a solid roller because this rig is going to be turning some serious rpms. Nothing goes better with a single plane/4150 TB setup than a solid roller. In a 408 with some Frankenstein heads, you'll be making some unreal power.

Well that's what I am hoping for. Yes I am going solid roller because it will be seeing a lot of time above 6500 rpms. Unlike street cars and drag cars alike only see high rpms for a short amount of time this may see 6500-7000 and above for 30secs to minutes. I am leaning toward a nice throttle body and nice intake.

Top of the line single plane is the MAST intake, but a Super Victor intake will do you just fine. Accufab, Accel, Scorpion, or FAST make good 4150 TB's. Jesel shaft mount rockers would be a good choice, but if you are havinf Chris Frank do the heads, have him port the intake and spec out the cam and valvetrain too. One hand in the pie is better than two.

I will probably have him spec me a cam bad thing is I am not going to be able to run a huge stall in the woods due to creating so much heat. I talk to PTC and they are saying I am fine with what I have now but when I know more about my cam I will worry about the torque convertor then

Here is what happened to my $3,600 transfer case with my small motor a couple of weeks ago. So after seeing this I am going to have to switch to a stouter case this winter also.

I think you would have problems with the carb on the trails. If your truck is at a wicked angle and you stand on it possible for fuel problems in the carb. I.would think FI would be better for the situation

No one said anything about running a carb. You can run a single plane intake with a 4150 TB and remain EFI.

The only carb that I know of that will run standing straight up is a predator but they do not really like to be facing straight down.
