Default Bigger Valves on a Stock Bore 5.3

Hey guys,

I have a quick question for you. I have a pair of 317 heads that have a 2.02 intake valve, and 1.6 exhaust valve. I was wondering if I could use these on a stock bore 5.3?

I was orginally going to build a forged 370, but I can get SBE 5.3's all day here for around 400 to 500 bucks. I was thinking about throwing my heads on a 5.3 and letting it ride until the 370 is done. What do you guys think?

Well Im not sure what you trying to do . But unless you going turbo , I would not run 317s on a 5.3 . The chamber is 61cc on the 5.3 heads and 71cc on the 317 , you are going to give up a lot of compression.

There will be a pt76 strapped to it. I just need to know if the valves will be happy within the 5.3 bore.

They'll be fine. A friend of mine has a 4.8L with 862 heads that had 2.02"/1.60" valves, and worked out great. He made 650whp in a truck IIRC.

Thank you sir. I just hate having my car down for extended periods of time, and I have almost everything except my forged short block to put it back together.
