Default Those with Trunion upgrade. Look HERE!

Alright guys im doing another cam swap in my C5 this weekend

Old cam is 227/234 .617/.576 113+2 (4 degrees overlap)

New cam is 232/234 .626/.626 111+4 (11 degrees overlap)

Not a huge difference but hoping for a decent power increase

one big reason for the swap is the Cam will be from Cam Motion, They say to have significantly quieter valvetrain than the lobes im running now.

While its all apart Im going to do the trunion upgrade too since ill be running pretty high lift and already have the valvecovers off

Question-
Did the trunion upgrade make any noticeable difference in valvetrain noise for you?

I havent been able to find any info on that specifically

All opinions welcome!

I just did a cam install last month on mine and going from a box stock motor to the upgraded valvetrain and trunion upgrade the engine is no louder than stock.

It's not about the noise, it's about the factory bearing failures. I personally have the comp cams kit on my car, but I've heard that Tooley offers a better setup for the trunion upgrade.

I like roller rockers myself.....especially on something with over .600 lift.

I did mine with the cam, so noise increased. Went from stock to HCI so that was expected.

That being said, go with the BTR trunion upgrade kit. It's insurance against needle bearings spewing throughout your motor...

I agree with everyone else, you will not see any change in noise after doing a trunion upgrade on your rocker arms. With that being said it is still a very good idea to do them especially if your factory rocker arm have some age and mileage on them.

It's not the rockers that make the noise. It's a bad lobe design most of the time.
If our cam make noise I will give you another one or buy one of your choice

Thats what I was thinking too. I did mine and noticed no difference, just did it for a piece of mind against stock 100k rockers. My Cam Motion is very quiet, though a fast intake, long tubes, and thin lid and ram air WILL make way more noise then stock, thats the nature of the beast usually due to aftermarket parts being thinner and less restrictive.

Now thats good customer service. Thanks kip. One of the main reasons im switching is just to make my valvetrain more quiet. Im doing new ls7 lifters also.

I have a bbk intake so luckily that muffles the sound a little buy longtubes dont help

I was wondering if the trunion upgrade kits make the valve train any noisier. My reason for asking I just upgraded new camshaft and trunnions and have a lot of valve train noise I have the Comp Cam 624-617 and it's a very fast ramp I'm supposing the camshaft could be slapping a lot harder than the last one EG open and close

Faster ramp rates on the lobes will definitely add more valvetrain noise. You said you have "upgraded" the trunnions. What brand did you go with?

Valve train noise has more to do with your lifter preload than anything else. Most cookie cutter cam kits give you the 7.400 pushrods assuming you're running stock or LS7 lifters with alot of plunger travel so most can get away with it, but to do it right you should be measuring your pushrod length to figure out your desired preload. Too short of a pushrod will cause excessive valve train noise, especially once the engine gets some heat in it and all the parts start to grow from thermal expansion.

I went from a Comp cam with single springs and LS1 lifters but stock rockers to a Cam Motion cam with single springs and new pushrods and LS7 lifters but also a VCM trunnion upgrade. Engine noise was substantially reduced. I then swapped out the Cam Motion cam for a TSP cam with dual springs but the same pushrods, lifters and VCM trunnions and it was even more quiet which was a surprise. People said the trunnion upgrade makes a big difference for valve train noise but as others have said, I feel it's more to do with the cam lobes.
