Default Torquer v4 cam

Finally getting around to posting about the torquer v4 cam that I just put in my car. Doesn't look like anyone posted anything about this cam so far since it's still new.

Spec's on the cam are 231/234 .619/.612 on a 111° LSA.
When doing research on what cam to choose I came across this in a recent thread. Seeing that this cam would be a little easier on the valve train, I figured this would be a good choice for me since my car is a street car that sees a lot of driving, but didn't want to give up power.

Lonnie
So my car is a 98 with TSP 1 7/8 headers and ORY, ls6 intake, SLP lid, and a rumbler catback. FLT built trans with a Yank 3600 stall. While installing the cam I added a Fresh set of 243 heads with a 5 angle valve job. So pretty much just a bolt on car. STILL HAVE FACTORY 2.73 GEARS

So after getting everything done with the swap. I took my car over to Sound Performance, who squeezed me in right away to get my car all set up.

Car made 387 rwhp and 375 tq in SECOND GEAR.
The pulls had to be made in second gear because 3rd gear pulls took too long with my 2.73 gears. Over all they said if they were able to dyno it in 3rd I would see around a 10-15 hp increase. So its around 400rwhp with a cam only car. Not bad in my eyes with a car with 116k miles on it.

After driving it for a bit the car really pulls hard now. The power is usable mostly everywhere, and pulls really hard after 3200 rpm.
Timmy at Sound Performance has my car idling great. It sits at right about 1000 rpms smoothly and I never had problems with it wanting to die or anything like that.

So what do you guys think? Numbers sound about right for second gear pulls with the converter unlocked?
Will be going to the track soon but I will most likely be on street tires until I make my mind up with my new set up. Also got to start looking for a rear end.

Also, Just wanted to give a shot out to everyone at Sound Performance. They had truly the best customer service and got me in the following week to tune when they were booked solid for months!

Regardless of the dyno numbers what it traps at the track will tell the true tale of the power you're really making. Nice job

Im sure its an improvement over a v3 and that thing would pull very good in the one I rode in. Now swap your gears out and hang on for the ride!

Those are some good numbers for sure. When you get a chance post up some driving videos. Those are always a must in thread like this.

Nice numbers, I heard Sound Performance are great with their work. I'm waiting to pick up my car tomorrow from Speed, Inc. for cam and stall work.

I originally had my car tuned twice at speed inc. Great people there. Just couldn't wait a month to get my car tuned so I took a shot at Sound Performance and was happy I did.

If my friend with his turbo LSX foxbody still wants to head to the Drag stip this Saturday Ill have some numbers. But I am still on 18" street tires that dont hook at all anymore and still have the 2.73 gear. It will just motivate me to buy a rear end.

When getting the car to somewhat not spin the tires the car moves out quite fast.

Seems impressive to me. Those 2.73s are gonna kill you lol. I went from 2.73 to 3.73 in my A4 car and it made a world of difference

Nice numbers. In 3rd I wouldn't be surprised to see 400rwhp.

So pretty much just a bolt on car.
An h/c/i setup (albeit a rather tame one at that) is a bolt-on car to you?

I would consider it a cam only car.. not a bolt on car.

but yes I would change those gears

Sure.

The heads bolted to the block.
The cam bolted to the cam gear.
The intake bolted to the heads.

Interesting... I wonder how the new TSP gentle lobes compare to the TICK mild lobes? I'm planning to build a mild lobe set up this fall...

How is the drive-ability with the V4?

Old thread but taking advantage of the search.. compared to the ms3, would this cam be a little less harsh on the valvetrain? Sounds like every 10k on springs with ms3. Is this any better? Anyone have thoughts on this? I'm researching cams and love the HP and track numbers of ms3 but sounds like it is and high rev cam, the torquer sounds like it would be perfect in the streets. I do have an ss4000 being installed now so I'm sure the lower rpms may no longer matter lol. Just researching options. I may run the prc 5.3 2.5 heads from tsp since I need to change my lifters, don't trust 125k lifters.

Any track times since the install? Thanks! Any input is greatly appreciated

The MS3 will have a lot more than a 10k spring life. Besides it's been my understanding that TSP is redoing all their old profiles right now
