The best timing gear setup for heavy use.
What do you think is the strongest timing gear setup for a lot of beating on the rev limiter and race use.
Double or single row chain? gears?
Chain damper?
Using the Melling 296 oil pump.
ATI damper and for the chain invest in cloyes gears with a C5R chain.
A good single row is better than a off brand double roller.
for the ultimate chain, the irl chain is it but is SUPER hard to get ahold of esp in small quantities.
i think i have some pics of the gm ls2 vs std iwis vs irl chain somewhere...

I'd like to know what the difference between it and the c7r that Hinson sells is? Both are seamless rollers and according to the bar graph stronger than the c5r chain.
I'd love for cloyes to release the matched IRL timing sets again.

JESEL BELT DRIVE
Want to make power? Use a belt. Significantly more expensive, and even more expensive to maintain, but also reduces valvetrain harmonics to almost nothing, and takes abuse well.
I would definitely do adjustable billet gears - they are worth it to dial in the cam for your combo.
If the IRL chain were available through Cloyes, that would win, hands down. The set would be well over $300 though.
The issue with double rollers is the install. Spacing and grinding and shimming etc.
Most cam installers wont know the intricacies of using an adjustable timing set but most aftermarket sets are adjustable to some extent. Some like the cloyes hex a just are quite a bit more adjustable.
