Default reliability. . stroker vs resleeved

Are there any reliability issues with a resleeved LS1/2/3/6? Another forum says that resleeved motors are less reliable than a bored and stroked LS1/2/3/6, but I would think that having RED or ERL build the shortblock would mean a reliable motor.

I'd say it's more durable... Those Darton sleeves are tough; longer too. I don't think RED builds motors, but ERL does.

True. RED just sleeves blocks with Darton wet sleeves (sleeves directly touch coolant) and ERL builds shortblocks and longblocks using their own dry sleeves (sleeves are in aluminum jackets that touch coolant first). Both are longer sleeves so a 454 will not have pistons coming partially out of the sleeve.

I have no clue which sleeves are better, but I like the idea of a one stop shop.

For a car that sees a lot of street time/miles a dry sleeve setup is recommended. A darton dry sleeve block is rated up to 1500 hp..... Also cheaper than wet sleeves.

However on a full race car with tons of boost the wet sleeve is recommended.....

I've talked to Steve about that a couple of times. From what he have told me the aluminum 5.3 block is the best/strongest block to resleeve. He also likes to drill a 1 inch bbreathing hole threw the thar block for better oil control.
Unfortunately the aluminum 5.3 needs to be a specific casting number. The one I have I'm going to get resleeve... The last three casting numbers is 048. The other is Steve told me will work is 043.

On those other blocks Steve prefers to resleeve a LS2 block over a LS3 block.... He said the LS2 blocks are easier to achieve a clean process on...

I heard the LS1 blocks are a hit or miss on resleeving...

Some blocks have bay windows under the cylinder for bay to bay breathing. On big engines and higher RPM applications, it's worth power. I have an aluminum 5.3L block and an LS2 block but neither have the windows.

I want to get a 454 shortblock in a few years. I want to go with a new LS1 block so that all of my current parts can be reused, and I won't have to buy all of the gen 3 to gen 4 conversion stuff.

Maybe a 5.3 block is a better idea. I will wait and see what ERL has to say when I am ready.

I always been told the gen 4 motors are best for resleeving.
Call Steve @ RED. That guys really knows his stuff and valuable information on selecting a type of block/resleeve for a specific kind of build.
