Default Engine grabby when turning over by hand?

Heads are on: I'm using a 1/2 Wrench and 24mm socket to turn the motor over:

It mostly turns nice and easy, but at one point during the cycle, it starts to get noticeably difficult.

I cleaned the cylinders out before install...

Any cause for concern here?

Trick flow heads milled to 61cc.

GM MLS gasket, with a coating of copper gasket spray.

No pushrods or anything installed, but all plugs are pulled.

Ok well it would not be a ptv issue then with no push rods installed...If I remember correctly mine turned over smoothly with no plugs installed.

Have you done any work to the oil pan or windage tray?

Not really. I did drop the pan a few inches to replace the oil pump.

There shouldn't be carbon in the bore where the rings ride even if the pistons were caked with it. I'd be concerned.

Bummer. I'm going to try and pull the flywheel off. I loosely mounted it on, and I'm wondering if maybe it's grabbing something.

It does turn over... But like I said, it gets noticeably stiffer at one point.

Took the flywheel off, and it seems to have resolved itself. Engine turns over consistently.

I never torqued the flywheel down, so it must have been dragging on something.
