Whats up tech memebers !

Well last night "Zepp decided to shut off on me.

From the sounds of it i am thinking the timing belt snapped but I will confirm later today once i pull valve covers.

But I wanted to get some feedback and opinons from my fellow members.

So i was at about 4k rpm, had a back fire (valves not opening/closing as they should My opinon) then shut off and coasted to side.

When i attempted to turn it on, the motor turns and all but it will not start.

My engine is an LS6 with valve relief pistons, cam is a 238/244 586/596 on 114lsa.

I know if the timing chain snapped there is possiblity of valves being bent and pistons being damaged.

Do you think the valve relief and dual valve springs saved me from any damage?

any input is greatly appreciated.

If your timing chain went you bent some valves. It's interference engine.

I've busted three on various engines. When you bump the starter they don't chug due to no compression. It sounds like an electric drill spinning.

Sorry for your loss there. Here is how mine went if this helps:

1. Nissan 1.8L bent every valve. Put dents in the piston surface. No other damage. New valves and guides. Milled 004 to clean up the surface. Ran fine after that

2. BMW 2.8L. Bent some valves but not all. Guides were ok. Replaced all valves to be safe. Ran fine on reassembly.

3. Toyota 2.2L. Non interference engine. Literally no damage. Installed new timing set and running fine.

FWIW my chain snapped when I had a "Street" link bar lifter break jamming the cam. I bent 9 valves and that happened on the first few revolutions of startup.

i was hoping maybe there was no contact with the piston having valve relief.

I will find out once we look in to it.

Unless the relief is more than 1/2" deep you probably had contact on some

You refer to that issue with a certain 25% underdrive pully linked to broken chains ?
