What year Lq4 is best
Looking to do a swap into an old Chevy C10. With a naturally aspirated motor and would like to make close to 450hp (what are best mods to do to get there). Of course once money permits a turbo would be cool but is probably a pipe dream. Will have a 4l80 behind it.
Is there a year of Lq4 that is best to use? Some say the 2005 has better rods, can someone confirm this?
Also what is high mileage for one of these engines? Is 96K high for a swap motor for $2K?
Thank for the help!!!!

Here is the thread that says LS2 connecting rods on 2005 Lq4.
Can someone else confirm this for sure? Does it matter if the lq4 came in a 2500 truck or Express Van?

For anyone that find this thread. I did some more research and it appears that the rods for a 2004 Lq4 are different then those in a 2005.
The part numbers for a 2005 Lq4 rods are the same as a 2005 Corvette LS2 connecting rod. #12607475 .

Dont mean to bring up an old thread, However the Lq4's are getting harder to find with low mileage on them.
Found one with 66K on it but it is out of an Isuzu 4500 box truck. the truck is a 2006 yr.
Should this be the same as the rest of the lq4's in the chevy trucks in 2006? Also it has the 4l80 behind it, would it the same as the trucks trans?
Any help is appreciated.

450 horse isn't hard to achieve.
- get you a decent set of headers (medium size) 1 3/4 comes to mind
- get some 2.5 or larger free flowing mufflers/ run duals ( no flowmaster!!)
-custom tune from a well experienced tuner
Just those three modifications there you will have 410 horses and 440 ft lbs of torque..... it's been PROVEN.
Now that's 40 horse from your goal. Let's add on.
- trailblazer SS intake with a larger throttle body ( 15 horses or more over the basic truck intake)
- after all why not do a small cam that makes power everywhere in the power band but very easy on your valvetrain. I recommend you looking at a 210/218 camshaft. Car craft tested the mild daily driver cam and it was worth 50 horses over a factory cam.
- with any used motor I recommend changing the oil pump, timing chain and lifters.

Would like 450 to the wheels. How many Hp does a set of l92 heads make?
Lastly I keep lookin for a 2005 because of the better rods. There is a locally lq4 with 66k miles complete minus ac compressor for $1800, but holding off due to it being a 2004, should I hold off?

My 06 gto with a pre 05 lq4 with l92 heads btr stage 3 ls3 cam and full supporting mods made 380rwhp/347ftlbs on a land and sea dyno that reads very close to a mustang dyno. It's very stingy. As far as durability, I am currently N/A still but mine sees 6800-7000rpms regularly with no issue. My lq4 was a high mileage pull out from a 02 2500 pickup.
