Default 5.3 into 63 corvette, motor/trans upgrade help

Im installing an all aluminum 5.3 from a 2004 trailblazer EXT into my 63 corvette. I will be using a 4l60e. Im thinking while its on the stand to add a small cam and small converter. I mostly see cam articles on the ls1. The 5.3 actually pulled the heavy trailblazer very well, obviously the old corvette is much lighter; this will effect the stall speed. I am not looking for a big power plant, just an decent improvement. I would like to keep oem manifolds if possible. My reason for this engine/trans swap is gas mileage, reliability and smooth driving. I dont want to loose these. It has the ls1 single feed fuel rail and intake and injectors from a 2000 corvette. I will upgrade the timing components and valve springs and lifters at the same time. Also the ecm will be sent to be tuned. Current miles are 119k. So what does this forum suggest? Thank you.

You understand the car intake is a step backwards right?

Far as stall either do a real stall 9.5" 2800+ or keep it stock. If going with a stall Edge on the budget end Yank, Circle D, Vigilante on the more expensive end.

If you want to stay stock on stall stay very mild on the cam, several vendors(Tick, Cam Motion etc.) offer "truck" cams. No sense in going big with exhaust manifolds anyway. Might consider a stock LS1/LQ4 cam as a dirt cheap upgrade

The siamese-exhaust ports are long gone.

You can either hunt down Gen-III/LS series exhaust manifolds, or do tube headers. Regardless, all the heads that I am aware of have equal spacing between exhaust ports.

Default Thank you

Thanks for the replies. I must use the car intake due to hood clearance. All the stuff I was able to read said there are better cams then the ls1 cam or hot cam but nothing else referencing what better is...... Ill keep researching. I think Ill just buy a new replacement converter. thanks again

Check out cam motion for some very good 5.3 cam options. Also Brian tooley racing. Both have very good drop in cams

I have a 66 coupe with a 5.7 (very soon to be a 402).

I run a 2004r with a precision convertor.

I also ran a ls1 intake for awhile (still have it) then went to a fast 90. Anyways I run a simple alternator mount, bolt the alternator to the drivers lower and just an arm to adjust. I also run camaro (f body coated mid lenght(barely) headers. One tube took a small dent, but I will be selling them cause my new motor requires a bit more header, so Ill be building the new set.
I also use a c5 filter/regulator, and a single external walbro pump (you cant hear it. With a cammed 98 ls1 that dynoed 380 (224/228 cam) it runs 11.70's at 4500 da. On gas I got 30 mpg with 336 gears on the hyway. I switched to e85, and the car ran about the same et's....but the new engine is over 12 to 1 so it had a purpose.

my car weighs 2750 with aluminum wheels (centerlines) and no weight reduction, but I did take the front bumpers off.

It didnt take long to kill a half shaft, and now have the 6 link set up...

LOL I'm betting the body has quite a few stress cracks from the new found power.

2700lb and no weight reduction? Most mid year coupes weigh in around 3300 with a SB and 3500 with BB.

Sounds like a nice car.

Mines a 425 /427 car, I had it all restored many years ago. No power brakes or power steering on hi hp bb cars. I also had a completely stock 65 425/396 car....both were 3250, with cast iron exhuast manifolds. and steel wheels with the oem caps.

With an aluminum headed (iron block) 383 , aluminum water pump, my 66 was 2840 with a th350.

Aluminum ls block and even lighter plastic intake...2750, and I added weight with the 6 link stuff in the back, upper control arm, braces, bigger half shafts, loops, and u joints.

No real cracks, they are pretty strong full frame with the built in bar in the roof of the coupes.

And im shooting for 500rwhp with the 402 (ls2 block) it only made 460 on a small shot and went high 10's with the 5.7, so it would be nice to run 10.60-10.70's all motor on e85.
