Default 5.3 turbo build questions. Need some input!!

I have an 03 5.3 with 100k on it. My dilemma is do I keep it 5.3 and forge everything or do I bore it to a 5.7? I'm looking for the cheaper route. I have no idea what the shop will charge to bore it out or if parts would be cheaper or more expensive. I'm going to 800hp with it if that helps. Thanks!

Street car?

It all depends on how reliable you want it & how much you want to spend for that reliability. How much did you pay for the engine? If it tanks, is it cheaper to go get another long block than to buy a bunch of forged internals? You can go to the later rods with floating pins & stretch the reliability a bit farther for not a lot of cash.

A solid tune on the SBE should last quite a while if you aren't beating it at every stop light & revving the crap out of it.

Also, a bit of a waste to bore the block unless you are going to heads that really need the extra bore to help them out. At that point a 4" bore block would make more sense.

I paid $600 for the long block. I'm more looking for reliability. My machine shop suggest me not to waste my money on the 5.3 and just get a 6.0. I'm not looking for monster 1000+hp just 800max SOMETIMES with a reliable 650-700 cruiser.

What A/R turbine housing?

Turbo Cam & a good set of heads would be a good idea with that turbo. Cam for sure, but heads would help. Closer you get to 400HP NA, the easier it is to make 800HP...

What tranny?

5.3's can make awesome power... Don't underestimate it.

I'm sticking with my M6. I'll never give that up. Monster 11" ceramic clutch.

My bad.

Give Lil John a buzz & have him spec a cam for you. It will make a big difference in spool time.

Couldn't really make my mind up on a cam so I think I'll take the suggestion and call him up!

Anyone know of a good forged crankshaft without breaking the bank? I'm going with wesco boost pistons and eagle rods.
