I just got my motor together and I went to measure pushrods so I got my rockers out of there oil bath to get started. I bought already fully assembled rockers with the original style that is supposed to use oem bolts.

I can not simply drop the bolts through the trunion and hand thread them in. There is no clearance and the bolt gets stuck about half way through. It will go if I tap it through with my socket wrench a few times and or thread it in with a wrench but this doesn't seem normal to have such resistance when stock just dropped right through.

Is this normal?

Are you saying the un-threaded shank fits very snug into the trunion...?

Yes, I have to tap it to get it all the way in and or thread it into the head to pull it all the way through.

I find that the bolts from the HD rocker kit do not fit the GM/Comp/Summit/Straub trunions.

Are you sure you got the right bolts...?

They fit with some persuasive force. Not much mind you but I was under the impression there shoukd be enough clearance to just drop em in and hand thread them all the way in. If it's normal to be very snug it's no big deal. I just didn't wanna mess something up or have it affect my torque since there's contact going on.

it would seem I either need a smaller diameter rocker bolt which is funny because Colorado speed SPECIFICALLY told me to use the stock bolts with these and that's why they stuck with the older design....

or maybe it doesn't matter at all if its forced through because once torqued the trunion isn't going anywhere and the rocker is going to be doing all the moving.

but the lack of clearance leads me to believe this will affect my final torque as the bolt is fighting the trunion....

can I just buy the aftermarket straub bolts and be good or maybe just sand my stock ones a few thousandths to make some clearance...

i'm a little annoyed as the reason I bought these pre assembled was for ease of install and the promise they just bolted right on...
Call Chris directly.

Do not use them.

I jumped on the bandwagon, can't be risking losing my daily's engine. Based on the pics, it seems 100% of people who pressed their trunions out saw the problem.

I will post pics of mine when I do the swap in 1-2 weeks.

Imma try a different bolt and or bench grind my oem ones to clearance them.

Just another snag in the project lol. Thanks to all that have suggested solutions and or pmed with helpful ideas.

I'm sure it will get sorted out.

I'm most definitely not against buying some rocker bolts if needed I just wanna know what and where to get it. Which I'm working on

Food for thought here. I noticed a huge difference in the comp trunions after i soaked them in motor oil and moved them around with my hands before install. I mean they were very tight before the oil bath and felt great after. My engine isnt running yet but did anyone try something similar?

Has anyone seen evidence of the BTR trunion having these same problems?

Yes. We went with the milled flat on top so that all fastener types would fit without any mods by customers.

I got your email and answered it. GM does have 2 different trunnion but both bolts fit in our trunnion hole. Its the first I have heard the OEM bolt not fitting through the hole. About 50% of the kits are sold without bolts and I have not had anyone say that the bolt would not drop through the hole. The hole in our trunnion is .316 to .318". The OEM bolt is .315". The OEM bolt hole is .320 to .321.

My bolts are all over the place lol. Thanks very much for the ideas as well. I think this is another example of gm variance that I got lucky on. My rockers were soaking in oil if that had anything to do with it in don't know. Some of my bolts fit and some dont.

So I'll try the after market set which I'm sure will be fine.

Anyone else with a gto is probably used to this as it would seem everything on this car is different in some way then the next gto down the street lol.

Let me just say how great straub is. Who offered to send me free bolts even though I didn't buy my kits from him direct. I just measured some of my bolts and .315 clears on most bolts however if I turn them some have high spots as high as .317 which is exactly why I'm having an issue.

I'm not the kinda guy who wants others to pay for my issues. As this is no doubt a quality control issue with my gm bolts I will be paying for the required after market bolts.

Those of you in the future I would probably just advise buying the kits with bolts for peace of mind.

It might be the gm supplier to the Australians are different since my gto was obviously built over seas. I have no idea but food for thought. The straub bolts are .313 so u have nothing to guess.

A plus to everyone who helped me figure out what's going on!
