I just purchased a TSP 224/224 .581/.581 LSA 112 for my 2001 Z28 M6. What would be the best valve springs for this cam? The Comp 981's? How about the Manley springs from SDPC that comes with the Titanium retainers. Are the Manleys better than the Comps because they are not behive? If I run the Comps, I will stick with the stock retainers.
Thanks,
Glenn

Yeah both springs are sufficient enough for that cam. I run the comps with my cam setup which is the same as yours. Definitely get the titanium retainers, any weight you can shave off that valvetrain will be great at giving you faster revs, less noise etc... That cam is great at making power on M6s, 400rwhp isnt unheard of with boltons. In the future when and if I do decide to go with heads Ill probably go with dual springs. Good Luck

918 in general would be the choice, however should you decide for extra peace of mind, and longuer intervals between spring change (Average interval 15K), I would go with Patriot "Gold".
I say peace of mind, if a spring breaks, like a 918 being a single spring it would spell disaster. On a double spring, the Inner spring can save u from a lot of damage.
Also should you decide in 6 months lets say that the 224 is too small, all you have to do is change the bumpstick.
Patriot "Gold" good to .650 lift BTW.

Patriots "Gold" would be TSP (Texas Speed & Performance). They get good price as they are a steady Patriot distributor.
Also their Cust. Service is really good.
You can find 918's pretty much anywhere, just shop around for prices.

I bought my 918's from Texas Speed and Performance. There were the cheapest around, price match, and were great to deal with. Ask for Jason, he's a real nice and very helpful guy. Also, although the Patriot Golds will work for up to .650 lift, I think they are overkill for your application. Going with a valve spring that is rated for that much over your max lift is overkill. It would be like putting 918's on your stock cam. I would think the desired seat pressure would be hard to achieve as well.

Call TSP Jason or Trevor.
Stage 2 Patriot heads come with that spring and many of them have that 224 cam as H/C package. The ramp rate is pretty vicious so seat pressure shouldn't be a problem.
Just find out to make sure.

Like others have said, for the price and ability to sleep at night....
Get the PP Golds.
295.00 gets dual springs, tit rets, new locks, new seals.
You can't beat that.

i agree with the 918's but at the same time i know that i like to be 100% sure that i wont have any problems in which ever field i am workin on... So IMO and just my 2 cents, I would go get the dual springs which are good to .650 lift. But again there arent nessecary just safety!!!

I'm leaning towards the Patriot dual spring set-up from TSP. Those guys are great and it would be nice to have the safety net of the second spring. What kind of life can I expect from the Patriot Golds with this cam TSP224R with .581 lift?
Thanks,
Glenn

I think you all are crazy! Just because a spring is rated for that kind of lift doesn't mean it is the best choice for anything from stock up to that point of rated spring pressure. I'd get the springs that best match that cam, and in my opinion those springs are the Comp 918's. Call Comp Cams and see what springs they recommend.

Step up to the new. Comp 921's, Patriot 'Gold' duals are the latest additions for higher lift cams (.57x +)

And THAT is a reason enough to use them.
