Pulling this thing back out of the moth ***** for the second time. It’s crazy what having a kid can do to your free time. Got started with honing out the small end of the rods. Went from 2-3 tenths to 8-9 tenths. First time using the honing machine and it turned out great with some guidance. Didn’t get a photo while I was doing it hands were covered in honing oil. But the crosshatch looks great on the bushing.

Got the main bearing clearances set yesterday. Now ready to install cam bearings in the morning. Now finally on towards assembly, and I'll get some pictures as I go along.

In the process of installing the final cam bearing. This was a fairly quick install. It did help having this draw bar type versus the one you have to hammer in. Maybe it easy to make sure they were square in the hole.

Started fitting rings this morning. Going to take a good bit of time to get them all fitted. Just sneaking up on the gap. Don’t want to mess one up. Going for a .021 top and .023 second. Got two done before I had to start work.

Fit the the crank this morning and checked the end play. Just a touch over .003. Going to pull it back out so I can put the new side bolts in the mains. Hope to start putting rods and piston together this afternoon.

Got pistons installed on to the rods yesterday during lunch. All I have to say is that wire clips suck. Only had to pull one back out after putting the chamfer on the wrong side. Went in early this morning to clean the cylinder walls really well before I install them. Hope to have them in tomorrow and check the pinston to deck clearance.

Got the rotating assembly installed. Took me a couple of days to get it done. Only working on it during lunch, and went in to the shop today to install the last four pistons this morning. Everything turned over very smoothly and with out a problem.

Ordered my cam last Sunday. Ended up going with the summit pro series stage 3 LS cam. 231/242 113, .600 .600 lift. It made to the house Tuesday. Got it installed Wednesday morning before work. Used the summit racing double roller adjustable timing set too. My buddy from the engine shop helped me degree in the cam. Ended up advancing the cam 4 degrees after talking to the lead engine builder. Just to pick up a little more low end torque. So now it’s at 109 vs 113

Starting to get closer the end now. Started installing the final bottom end bits. Measured the oil pan to pickup clearance cam in at 3/8 so it was good.

What brand is that pink assembly lube/grease?

How did the Summit cam look when you got it, everything degree correct? Looks like they have stepped up their game. I am considering one of their newer cams.

Then yesterday got the oil pan and heads installed mostly. Went with arp head bolts for this build and GM mls head gasket. Started to install the pushrods and found out I was short on the number pushrods I needed. I know for a fact I had 16 but I guess someone needed six of them more than I did. So I ended up having to order six more from btr. Also had to order a few random gaskets as well. I did end up getting one heads rockers installed.

The base is redline mixed with lubriplate. The cam looked really good. The machine work was just as good if not better than some other cams. When we degreed it. It was bang on spec.

I would use straight Redline lube. Any kind of grease will clog the filter right upon startup.

The lubriplate doesn't clog the filter. Our shop has been using it since 99-00 without any problems. Also that particular grease is formulated not to do that. Also has high zinc content.

OK, thanks! Must be a low solids/low melting point grease. Lubriplate is known for good stuff, but I did not know that about their assembly lube.

I'm glad to hear Comp has improved their cam program, the last one I got was terrible, the machine work looked like Newt and the first reader. Sent it back, went down and visited Texas Speed and have used nothing but them since. First Class outfit. My .02 cents worth...

Got the valley cover, sensors, intake and intake installed. Went in for a minute this morning and got the flywheel installed so I can get the damper installed Monday morning. She’ll finally be ready to bring back to the house for final installation.
