Default First LS build

Was coming from a party on the 4th of July and the engine started to knock as I was turning on the highway. Lucked up being only 2 miles from the house, but the damage was already done. So I'm starting on the fun task of rebuilding the engine. Had a set of heads ported waiting to be changed with a cam replacement. No better time than now to change them.

Just a bit better than stock to be a tame/fun daily driver.

Had four spun rod bearings. The blackened rod pictured was the worst of the set.

But I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself. I ended up removing the engine from the bottom, and I have to say it wasn't all that bad. I should have done it when I was driving third gens. Didn't really have any problems other than the hydraulic clutch "quick" disconnect. I tried everything and I have a cousin that is a GM servic tech. I was still stumped, and ended up just unbolting the master. Ten minutes vs. the 3 hours I spent trying to disconnect it. That thing gets the middle finger.

Yeah those connections are a pain, there is a U shaped tool that helps depress the clearish/white collar.

Yeah I tried a couple of different ones to no avail.

Here is the time lapse of the removal. I had already disconnected everything other than the k member bolts at this point.

And I had some heads ported ready for a swap later, but this is as good a time as any. Had a set of 241 heads ported by head flow research. And made some impressive numbers.

Those are some impressive flow numbers for 241s. That will be a sleeper at the track for sure. Intake from .300 to .600 and exhaust from .400 to .600 are outstanding!

Dropped the block off at the machine shop to get cleaned this morning, and only 80 bucks. If I can get away with just that much in the machine shop I'll be ecstatic.
