Have you brought it back to the dealership? what have they done?
Unless I'm mistaken you have to bring it in, and the dealership has to try to fix the problem a certain number times before your car is a lemon and they have to buy it back....
Seems kinda silly to me to file for a lemon over piston slap

3 dealers in san antonio said two different things, two said "piston slap" and one said "carbon buildup and or high performance parts due to slp" they will not look at it anymore they will just tell me from the start. but the noise isnt just at startup its all day. some light or some heavy noise. now my car has 32k miles and my service engine light is on and its at the dealer now for that.

Hey SLP come to the Sonic meet tonight at I-10 and DeZavala at 8pm. I'll have my ATAP out there and we can see what codes your car is throwing. There is another guy on CZ28.com that is going through the piston slap issue also but he doesn't have an SES light on.

I heard that GM messed up the piston rings in 1998 and 99 ls1 motors causing smoke oil consumption blow by it mainly happens on the manual cars because they are ran at a higher rpm i went to a dealer ship they acted stupid and i called gm and the guy i talked to was a real *** hole i ended up telling him to go to hell does anyone know about this and if everyone is getting screwed like me that sounds like a lemon in my opinion.

They all have piston slap so unless your is horrible I see no point. Man you ought to here Angie's Jeep. You'd think a rods about to come through the block. It's pretty common with the newer engines.

SLPSS, your car makes some noise for the first minute or two of operation while its warming up, and you filed a lemon law on THAT? Why? does it really bother you that much? Is yours really really really loud or something?

Re: Piston Slap Lemon Law
Hey Bro I went through it with my 01 WS6 M-6. It had un-godly engine noise and was sucking up a qt of oil in 3000 miles (the tailpipes were actually wet with oil) Pontiac told me this was normal I pushed the issue and they started an oil consumption test- starts with them changing my oil $72 i look at the invoice and it has MOA on it (for $10) i got to wondering so I asked - Motor Oil Additive !!! they put STP in it!!! then for the hell of it i check the oil -it was overfull by a quart back to the dealer to get the level right, then back every 500 miles to monitor the oil level Well it used a qt in 2500 miles and then theytell me "Oh thats normal" I was ready to go to war when i found a sweet 0% deal on an 02 WS6 so i got rid of it. Supposedly the 02 has a revised ring design I had the site that explained it with pics but im sorry i cant find it now Anyway i now have 13000 miles and no noise and no oil consumption, Good luck I feel your pain i was very upset about the issue and the way I was treated by Pontiac - Not sure why i went back for more I guess its just because i love this car

Re: Piston Slap Lemon Law
I think any car that is run hard will use some oil. In the summer when I race and so forth, I go through about a quart every 3000 miles. In the winter, I use no appreciable amount at all.
Also, I still have no idea what piston slap sounds like, I don't think I've ever heard it.

Re: Piston Slap Lemon Law
i think you are correct in filing a lemon law suit - YES!!!
..it is about time GM paid attention to quality control and design issues....after all, they produce some of the worst garbage on the planet...actually, i'm surpised they are still in business given that the competition makes great products...
...thank you ralph nader for the lemon law!!!!!
by the way, the stats on the lemon law indiate that the vast majority of claims are made against the General ...so that speaks volumes for their crappie design...basically they don't care...so the legal system is there to force them to deal with the crappie cars...
unfortunately, the LS1 is a fast motor and it is realitively cheap ...so yes I own one too...

Guys really a qt of oil ever 2500-3000 miles is nothing big in an engine subject to high rpm use.My 2002 silverado hd 8.1 drinks a qt ever 800-900 miles.I documented all oil and fuel usage and after going thru tests at dealer and being told its normal .I contacted a lawyer and 9 months later won a judjement. For those with serious noise or consumption I suggest same path, just be patient it takes time to get results.

My bone stock '02 has piston slap on warm-up but dissipates when driving.
