Windage tray clearance issues with arp main studs
Hello all, my complete oil pan kit from brp hotrods showed up today for my 1978 transam and the windage tray is hitting my arp main studs where the tray is enlarged for the pick up tube mount. I ended up grinding a bit away from there to expose the bolt. Just wanted to make sure everything looked okay and that there is no issue with grinding that corner.

Hello,
I've got the Moroso windage tray for my LS1/LM7, part 22941. I've got the ARP 2000 main stud kit. I know Moroso suggests using Part 22943 for engines with ARP main studs, but there isn't enough thread count available to mount the windage tray over the head stud nuts using 22943. I had to use a drill press to drill out the mounting brackets to fit the main studs but it fit perfectly after that and clears the inboard main studs easily. Since there is no mounting hardware included what nuts should I use? The threads are 10mm x 1.25. Tried to find steel lock nuts but no luck. Found elastic stop nuts. Found nuts and split lock washers. How much torque?
Thanks in advance
Bill

You can get all-metal lock nuts at McMaster-Carr for sure; no doubt, lots of other industrial type distributors as well. Split-top, inserts, distorted threads, keps, serrated, belleville washers, you name it. Mil-spec if you want that. Thin ones if your situation needs that. Even in stainless, or ones that would use cotter pins or safety wire if you REALLY want to go ape on it.
Std torque on a fastener that size would be around 40 - 45 ft-lbs. Probably doesn't need to be that much on a piece of sheet metal, esp w lock nuts; would probably crush it anyway. 25 should do the trick with good nuts.

I did exactly as you did OP. Bored out 3 holes and that spot near the pickup tube mount. I wanted to keep it all ARP so I ordered kit 200-8683 M10 x 1.25 Locking Flange Nut - 10 Piece and its exactly what I was looking for if anyone else is searching for a solution.
