Notched head MLS head gasket from WS6store
Just got done installing these new MLS gaskets and I couldn't be more happy with the outcome. I had a pretty bad head gasket leak and after tearing it all apart it turns out the previous owner put in a regular MLS gasket (which explains why it was leaking). Got it all back together along with a new cam and supporting mods and no leaks. I figured I would make a thread since there are so many people out there with notched heads that have limited choices for gaskets.

I am going to bump this up again. it seems like there are still quite a few that do not realize there is an mls gasket alternative besides the one felpro that is very affordable for a set instead of welding the decks.
These can also be used on any other head as well.
4.8/5.3/5.7 block gasket set
6.0 block gasket set

I just wanted to add my $.02...on this issue if it helps.
I am doing a stock rebuild on an early 5.7l LS1 ..from a '99 Firebird I think. I don't remember what heads they are, but they are early heads with the notches or recesses in them, near the 3rd or 6th exhaust valve.
I bought a head gasket kit from Summit which included Fel-Pro 9284PT gaskets. I know there are people on this forum that say these gaskets WORK with early, notched heads. There are others that say they don't work . Fel-Pro themselves DO say they work for '98- '01 LS1's in their online-parts catalog, but neither they or Summit mention the notched issue.
Mahle has published a paper on this specific issue, and claim in a research paper that they redesigned their Mahle "original" MLS gasket to seal the older LS heads with the notches. The paper is listed here:
https://www.mahle-aftermarket.com/me...ss-ga-g-24.pdf
Per the paper, the Mahle 54442 head gasket should work with the older, notched, 5.7l heads. It is available from Autozone, Advanced Auto and many other outlets at $45 ea. (sold individually)

That is NOT the correct gasket for head with notch. Take a look at a Mahle 54442 and notice the center cylinders have teflon and a raised sealing ring that will go around the notch.

The gasket Bakir got is correct. The company we use did change the coating to the entire gasket. There is only one gasket design like that we have and that is it. it will work without issue!

That is incorrect. The notches are on both inboard cyls on our gaskets they just cannot be seen in the picture due to the flash and camera angle. It is actually an ebossed part not a raised sealing ring also.
