Default Stock block ls1 with ASA cam and 61cc heads...bad idea?

Just picked up a 83k ls1 engine that I'm installing in a hotrod. I'm going to run it with a carburetor. I'm looking at a dual plane, ASA cam (226-236 .525.525 110) or the new higher lift .600 same specs. I found some 799 heads ported and milled to 61cc I was thinking about. Would this be a bad idea? I'm new to the LS world but have built lots of older gen 1 sbc engines. I'm excited and want to do this right the first time. Thanks

No, this would be a pretty good combo for good midrange torque

I agree, that combo would have a midrange pull, and would be a decent overall setup

should make at least 450hp at the crank and be very streetable. Make sure your rear gears and converter (if running and auto trans) are compatible.

I'm on the hunt for a 6spd and the rear end is a 12 bolt 3:73 posi. This is going into a 70 Camaro. should I be concerned about this engine having 83k ish miles on it or should I be ok with sticking a cam, heads, ls7 lifters, pushrods, timing chain and let her rip?

Our high lift ASA cam will fit with .030 milled 243s. Aboit 60cc. The gm one wont. Ours has 1* less advance just for ptv issues like you would run in to. Make SURE you measure pushrods and do not use a thinner gasket.
Itll be great for mid range and top end on that intake setup.

What head gasket do I want to run with this setup? We only have 91 octane fuel in idaho....is a factory ls1 should block with 61cc heads and your high lift ASA cam going to be on to run on 91?
