Default 400rwhp

I'm putting a LS1 in my -69 Camaro. What is the easiest and cheapest upgrades I can do to get 400 rwhp?
Engine info
Stock LS1 with 241 cylinderheads (-99 Corvette)
Dough's longtube headers and 2.5" Magnaflow
92mm trottlebody

I think if he reworks the heads then less cam is needed than stock 241s and bigger cam with the power higher up the curve

With all the supporting bolt ons, I would think something fairly mild like a 224/224 and ls6 intake should do it. If you're looking for top end power and budget supports a fast intake, that should definitely do it. And a cam only swap is easier and cheaper than messing with the heads.

he will not see 400rwhp without working the heads. show me a dyno where anyone has and no unless it is a huge cam.

yeah like I said. no 400rwhp with untouched 241s and a 224 and certainly not if LS1 intake. But yeah lots of dyno tricks possible if someone wants to claim 400rwhp with a 224. I recall when the old and new gen 224 cams were tested on an engine dyno on a stock LS1 with LS6 intake and even electric water pump and no mufflers it was about 447-470 flywheel hp depending if using the 224/224(.581") cam or the 224/227(.615"/.605") cam. Even the later TSP cam would be just under 400rwhp. 1-7/8" dyno headers used as well.

The whole chasing a peak number is ridiculous and pure newb.

Ya we just need to drill into peoples heads that dynos are for tuning and bragging rights. If we spent 1/16th of the time talking about dialing suspension for maximum weight transfer while remaining streetable as we do about horsepower, more people would be running low 11s high 10s. OP, don't focus on a HP goal, just tell the cam experts what you want the car to do and they will handle it. If you want to read about the magic behind all of it and understand why your making power then thats totally cool. Its not rocket science. Its an air pump that's ancient by todays standards.

My bone stock ls6 made 393 with nice power across the board, not peak. Ls6 I know, but trade the cam for an after market and it worth a lot more than the difference between 243 and the 241. Look on the core the forum, they have a proven formula which was something like 224 cam (not stuck on it, just using for example) fast intake and all the bolt ons and it was good for 420 at the wheels. Like it was said, I wouldn't chase dyno numbers but 400 at the wheels give or take a few isn't hard and I consider mine "about 400"
