Good job on the broken bolt removal, the only reason I use the washer first is so you don't FUBAR the finish on the head. Got my heads back from Texas Speed Friday, WOW! the finished product on my 862's is beautiful!!!

I love everything about this. This shows the ls is starting to come full circle. Before these came out we would do the same exact thing to a old small block. I would have taken that engine for free or even paid $50-100, 4.8 crank and rods are worth that alone.
Many of the thing you did are things that I do the same and I love your piston pin holder!!
Looking forward to see the finished bore's Don't get to concerned if they aren't perfect. There are hundreds of thousands of engine running around on non perfect bores.

Still one of my original favorite engines.......here’s probably thee most resourceful budget 406 I’ve ever built. Hand polished the standard crank with Emory cloth on the garage floor. Four bolt mains. .030” over decked “zero” with KB claimer flat tops about 10.25:1. Factory rods and hand ported 2bbl heads (giant 1.72”/1.5”(3/8”) stem truck)valves. No guide or seat work lapped in. Got em’ surfaced new seals and LT1 springs. ISKY 244/244 .450”/.450” 108 LS hydraulic cam. Generic lifters. Cheap dual chain. Factory push rods and stamped steel rockers Old *** torker intake with oil fill neck. lol. Your basic 1300-1400 dollar heap of ****.

The engine build will be the cheap part of course being direct with all the companies sure helps personal pet projects but still costly.

Texas Speed boys do **** correct...

Kinda splurged on the machine shop to fix the nasty cylinder bores....figuring since the core was FREE and I should still be able to squeek under my self imposed budget of a thousand bucks....buddy of mine whose Turd Gen Camaro was in that burn out video I posted; will be getting a decent little devil for a boosted heap he's planning on doing.
He sorta loves my "spend no more than needed" kinda builds....

Im zero decking and 406 also. Its only a 2 bolt. Ill either use the KB flat top claimers which might use a 5.7 rod instead i dont remember. Arp rod bolts. For heads imma get some L98s and run a beehive 1219 or something of the sort. Maybe some LEADFOOD SBC valves 2.02/1.6 some self aligning roller rockers and either a very healthy retrofit roller 235/243 with roller thrust button and or a solid flat tappet 254/254 cam. Im leaning toward the retro roller setup though. Double roller set, melling pump with bolt on pickup, prob a moroso pan, and probably a proflo efi maifold and efi connection 24x setup. I think that would be pretty cool. old school/new brain setup.

Ran a set of the L98 (14101083) castings on a restricted stock car engine I built about five years ago. 364"/10.8:1/.500" lift flat tappet solid/Vic Jr./750
Un-ported (rules) and opened up for 2.02"/1.60" valves with a throat hog
worked well but never had them flowed
Only negative is they're lightweight castings which when coupled with the siamese bore block......well....U kno....
