LS6 springs with 224R cam?
First off hi first post love the forum...
Bought a used engine the guy says the only future upgrade would be stiffer valve springs. He said it' totally fine to cruise around with these springs just don't run it at the track. My brain says that's retarded but my wife's brain says she's going to beat me if I buy any more parts sooooo can I use these valve springs and be ok for probably 1,000 miles?

If the engine is out this is the perfect time to upgrade the springs. Much harder later. You can probably run them and keep the RPM low, but you know damn well you won't want to do that once its running in the car.

I would have to know what is going on in there or I wouldn't drive it. I would want to at least measure it to be sure.
at least pull the cam out and see what it has stamped on it before you do anything else

Don't take the chance with the stock LS6 springs and that camshaft. Chances are your wife will be a whole lot more upset when the spring or springs break, you drop a valve and destroy the engine. Get a set of springs matched for the camshaft. It's money well spent.

Coil bind on LS6 springs is 1.085". Installed height is typically 1.79" on a stock head. This leaves total lift of 0.605" with 0.100" clearance to bind. The LS6 springs will run on this cam unless it has more lift, however they won't control it at higher RPM. Personally, I would run it more than 2,000 RPM just to keep valve bounce in check. So if the OP wants to leave them in until the motor is running in the car and then swap them, that's his call. I don't agree with it but if he is aggressive with it at all he will be changing more than the valve springs.

I'm the OP couldn't remember my actual forum password so made a new profile to get it worked out. Anyway I'm in total agreement with all of you even possibly pulling the cam to see the stamp just needed to hear it from others I guess. I'm looking into PAC 1518 but I want to keep all the stock hardware and ONLY swap the springs.
