Is it worth it to port my set of 243s

Hey everyone, I plan on building a street/strip camaro with the stock ls1. Originally I was just going to do a budget n/a motor but now I'm itching to put some nitrous through it, probably 150-200 wet shot. Now my question is as stated in the title, I have a set of 243s in the machine shop getting refreshed now and a valve job/bowl work with dyno results of a 25hp gain to the crank with a set of stock 853 heads. I'm curious about the benefits of porting them would be. A basic rundown of the other parts on the motor are going to be stock bottom end with arp rod bolts, a comp cam .604/.609 .238/.240, ported fast 92, slp headers with 3 inch true duals, and basically all the other supporting mods for a decent nitrous build. Just wondering what the power differences would be with the H/C/I with and without the porting.

Honestly if the person porting the heads knows what they are doing then you'll always have a net gain with porting, How much depends to many factors to put an exact number on it. With your setup having everything before and after the heads built for better breathing it would be a shame not to get the heads worked if it's in the budget.

You said you're already getting bowl work and a valve job and you got 25 hp from that? Is that what you meant?

I would expect roughly 30 (25-35) over stock heads, so if you're already getting 25, there isn't much left there to gain, but there is some. 10-15 ish, so depends on how much you want to spend to get there. Of course these numbers could go a little higher or lower, it's hard to accurately guess at it.

That's why I asked the question I asked. A very big part of the gains in the head work is the bowl work and valve job.

Gotcha, I'm going to find out about pricing once they get the cnc machine in a few weeks and if i can get lucky and have them done for like 300 or less because im friends with 2 of the guys that work there i might as well get it done just because hp to dollar wouldn't be too bad at that price. I just can't really justify $500 on about 10hp
I'm really curious what they would get from the port work.
You said they already did the valve job, but you didn't say if they did the bowl work, i'd definitely get the bowl work done, the port work will be up to you and $$$ per hp.
