Was having problems with my torque wrench for saome reason ......... think it as the angle.
I overtightened the oil pickup tube 10mm bolt and snapped if off ..... so mad at myself as usually Im really careful with that stuff in aluminium

Remove water pump, crank pulley, timing cover, oil pump....or less if you're doing this another way, but I think a new oil pump is needed unless you take it to a machine shop.

sucks to hear.

Saccitycorvette makes a great tool. You can use it to align the timing cover on the crank snout and then install the seal. Worked great for me.

It's not 100% necessary, but there is a chance you can misalign the cover and cause a leak.

http://www.ictbillet.com/ls-timing-c...ct-billet.html

Anyknown know if there is a homemade version .... on a timeframe crunch as much as the $$ side of things ......

Or...you can purchase the Improved Racing pickup tube brace part #EGM-500. Your oil pump has a threaded hole on the other side. That’s where this brace goes, and holds everything just fine. All the pickup tube needs is one bolt to hold it firmly in place. Easy Peasy Japoneasy.

Should be able to carefully drill a hole in the sheared bolt, tap in an easy out bit and with a wrench back it out. A little liquid wrench prior to removal wouldn't hurt either. I've always used my 1/4" drive inch pound torque wrench and took it to 106-108 in lbs.

the left hand twist bit has worked for me 95% of the time,, especially if it just got snapped on a over torque and the threads where clean.
I use a dremel and a tungsten burr to put a "center punch" divot in the end of the bolt.

Never had much luck with the easy out stuff
I've not tried the left hand drill bit - so going to give that a go ...... https://www.harborfreight.com/left-h...-pc-61686.html
If that fails -- will try the welder
If that doesnt work - take the front off and new pump.

Hard part is this is all on my back under hoist - keeping it steady ....... might try placing it on jack stands but not a lot of places to balance it except for engine mounts.

Anyone know the default bolt thread and bolt size ..... think they are m6.

If I do decide to weld a nut .... any tips ?

Thinking a few things ....

1) Splatter into oil area .....
2) damage to alumiunium (probably not)
3) The bolt material - no idea what it is - metal with zinc coating ? So should weld ok ?

The likelyness of it failing is way higher since it's harbor freight! Less than 24 hours ago I bought the "1050lbft of breakaway force" 1/2 inch impact....crank bolt just laughed at it.

good luck!

is the engine in the car or out?

Its what I’m using on my 434”. Same scenario as you, except mine is stripped, not broke off. Holds better than the Oem setup, because it “seats” the pickup tube into the pump square. It’s all you need. Oem setup only use one bolt...Don’t end up with an engine full of shavings. Just buy the $25 part.

looks like you can only get to the bolt from front side through right ? Meaning to tighten need the front cover off anyway?

I like the idea .... trying to get it fixed today though ... if that fails maybe this ..... if you can confirm if need to do from front though ...

welll wholly @#@#$

After going to the store and grabbing a bunch of stuff ........ I came home and was too nervous to jump on it ...... procrastinating ....... then thought wtf - needs to be done.
Idea was to start with the center punhc and cobalt 2.8mm drill bit and see if I could get a good center ....... I would then try the HF left handed drill bits.

Well I hadnt started drilling more than 1 minute and it turned a 1/8 turn ..... didnt want it to tighten any more so stopped and moved onto the HF left hand bits.
For a while nothiing happened and wasnt sure - then .. again ...... moved ..... by carefully angling the drill and applying some small pressure .... more turns .... till finally ......

*BLAMO**

well im an idiot....-sncof7ql.jpg

You guys rock.

The other bolt is a straight up M6 x 20mm from home depot .............. ok to use I assume ??

Goign to spend the next 15 minutes going over everything with a strong magnet. Not really much shavings came out at all -- but to be sure.
