Default Oil leaking from driver dust cover hole

Well I finally cranked my car up for the first time in nearly two years. Took the motor out to replace some gaskets, etc and add a Huron speed turbo kit. Cracked the oem pan and bought one of Amazon (I think) that had good ratings. Well there is a nice steady stream of oil coming from the driver dust cover hole at the back of the pan. My question is would this happen if the oil pan gasket is bad? I don't see leaks anywhere else and I thought that hole was a blind hole. Stuck a small screwdriver in and it does feel like there might be breakthrough, but I am not completely sure. Unfortunately I cannot put the bolt in at the moment because it wasn't properly tapped. Need to make sure I understand the problem so I can determine what needs to be fixed.

Did you add black RTV in the corners of the pan where they meet the front/rear covers?

Yes. Replaced the oil pan gasket, rear main (using alignment tool). Replaced barbell. Everything was done by the book.

I'm wondering if the hole is too far forward towards the front of the vehicle and if it has penetrated the inner wall of the oil pan

Oil pressure sensing unit checked out ok? It will leak down the back of the block and come out right there.

Yes. Oil sending unit is good.

I confirmed the culprit.

Oil is coming out the hole because it is in fact drilled too far towards the front and did breakthrough the inner wall of the pan.

It's difficult to see here, but in the mirror you can see the hole inside the hole.

Moral of the story: Dorman oil pan is rubbish. Learn from my mistake and don't buy this garbage

So QA didn't catch the hole in the hole. That does not make the oil pan rubbish. Plug it and be done. No more problems, unless there are other unrelated issues.

For what it's worth, they also didn't catch the chunk of metal missing where the filter mates to the pan. Luckily its right outside the seal. They also didn't catch the fact that neither dust cover hole on either side was tapped.

That's a pretty terrible QA process that leads to a sub par product. While I'm able to work around this, it does not negate the fact that the end product is not good.

So there WERE other issues that were not mentioned before. Good to know! With that said, that IS bad QA/QC! Thank you!

Yes. And yes I should've been more specific stating that

I just hope nothing else shows up in the future.

Can you get any satisfaction from where you bought the pan? It is OBVIOUSLY defective! AND I would think not typical of Dorman quality, or we would be hearing more about it. This one must have slipped out the door...

Possibly but I don't have high hopes. I ordered this thing over a year ago and had to put off working on the car off because of moving into a house I had to put significant work into.

At this point if I can get it to "work" I'll be happy. The JB weld appears to be holding up, but I found a leak in the steering rack that required me to put the car back up shortly after running it.

Use common sense. You won't ever have to worry whether that will hold or not, unlike JB Weld. It's just NOT the "big deal" everybody seems to be making out of it.
