Default NEED a real answer on whats needs for gen4 pistons rods in a gen3 block?

what is all needed other than of course Gen4 rods and Gen4 Pistons?

im really trying to avoid the 58x conversion and what not, i know the early 05 blocks are gen 3 with gen 4 but i rather grab a gen 3 block and just swap guts.

do i need to re balance the crank and what not?

i searched and could not find anything or mix match information. before you asking im looking for 700-800rwhp out of the gen3 hence why i think i need gen4 guts.

Do not quote me but----This might not be a real answer--
I saw a YouTube guy weigh the Gen 3 rods- pistons and Gen 4 rods- pistons.
The stock pistons weight the same but the rods were 38 grams heavier for the Gen 4 rods. Which should require a rotating assemble balance on the Gen 3 crank.
If you are using the Gen 4 crank check the reluctor wheel to see if it is the same.
Let me know and I will try to find the link.
Hope that helps.

I've never re-balanced when swapping, but I haven't exactly put 100k miles on any of the engines that I've done that way.

Gen 3 stuff from mid 04 to the end of 07 had the stronger rods/pistons. Gen 3 continued in trucks until the end of 07.

You guys really don't rebalance when going from gen 3 to gen4 rods and pistons?

Its certainly not a bad idea by any means.
But swapping rods/pistons is a lot easier than rebalancing lol.

Dumb question but could a person remove 38 grams from the rods without affecting strength

you would obviously be loosing some strength, but the rods weak point is usually closer to the piston, so i would think if you took weight off around the bearing/cap area (not the under side of the cap) then you would PROBABLY be ok. You would have to use common sense obviously when doing it. I dont know how much material has to be removed for 38 grams

People put entirely too much thought into this ****. Either get an 05-06 engine that has a 24x reluctor and Gen4 rotating, get a newer engine that has a 58x and swap your sensors, or slap the gen4 parts in a Gen3 block and send it.

If you have Holley then it doesn't matter what engine you get just change your config and run it. You can run a 58x crank with a gen 3 cam, a 24x crank with a 4x cam, can just run on the crank sensor, whatever you want to do doesn't matter.
