Default 408ci Stroker + MS3 Cam/237 PRC Heads

Ive got a forged and studded 408 going into the car here next week. Its a nitrous build, ms3 cam .600/.600 238/242 111 LSA. Thoughts or guesses on how it will do NA wise? TSP recommended the ms3 because its a stellar nitrous cam. Car also has a Fast 102/Nick Williams 102 setup.

Going to be a pretty mild setup... 111 LSA might be a little tight on the lobe separation angle given it's going into a 4" stroke and you want to use nitrous... suprised they didn't cut it on a 114 or 115 for you. Also, if you plan to use a lot of nitrous, it needs a lot more exhaust duration.

But as it sits, it will be a midrange torque monster with cathedral port heads and the smaller cam/tighter LSA. I don't know if that's what you're going after or not...

My goal is a low 11 high 10s NA, making 500 rwhp. With NOS I plan on spraying a 300 shot...

Yeah, I'd change the cam. You'll probably hit right around 490-500 and same in torque. But I don't like that for a 300 shot.

BTR has a nitrous cam... 251/266 112+4... designed for 400cid cathedral port 300+ shot. It will not be fun to drive on the street. So if this is mostly a track car, I'd go that way.

If it's a car you want to use on the street, BTR also has a 239/254 114+3 cam that would work well. Similar intake to what you have now but a lot more exhaust... and cut so the intake closes later and exhaust opens much earlier to take advantage of the 4" stroke and nitrous. Will drive okay on the street, but be down a bit in midrange torque compared to your current cam. But will pull much harder uptop and work with the nitrous better.

I personally wouldn't waste the time putting the ms3 in a 408. It's going to be to small for what your trying to do.

Until the car actually gets sprayed Ill be fine with the ms3 for now. But the more I look into the BTR 251/266 the more sold I am on it for running spray. Saw a TA on youtube spraying a 200 shot and it put down +310whp over motor.

Ms3 is too small for a 408.

I called up the cam manufacturers about this before and for a street strip fbody 408 stroker I am told a cam with those valve event is fine and going bigger will surge and drive like garbage.

Idk who you talked too lol my 416 with a 251/258 .650 110lsa cam drove amazing. Even with a twin disk clutch that grabbed like hell . It's all in the tune. You're going to be disappointed

I like that 239/254 114 as a good compromise cam for nitrous use and a street friendly 408. Still has 18 degrees of overlap. So will make power. Don't need 30+ degrees of overlap with a plastic intake. It's the law of diminishing returns.

However, that 251/266 or similar cam with something like a Holley/sheetmetal tunnel ram type intake (or even the BTR Equalizer) would make insane top end power. I almost wish you had the PRC 247s. They are a step up from the 237s especially for nitrous and high RPM power.

The MS3 will definitely be great for the street. Im not all too concerned about street drive ability though. Car already has Longtubes with bullets. Just a once in the blue moon weekend/strip car. I got my truck to daily

Yeah I’m usually a smaller cam guy myself but for your use depend on the rpm you are spinning I would change the cam out for something with more exhaust duration like stated for that shot of nitrous

Ended up having to send the crankshaft back to Texas Speed to have the reluctor ring replaced, 251/266 cam is now in and the engine will be hitting the dyno here in the next couple weeks
