Default Best LS1 rebuild kit

I will keep this short and sweet. I am doing a LS swap in a '65 Impala SS. The motor came from a '99 Trans Am. I am building the car for my wife. It will be driven frequently by her, so I am going back stock for now. My question to y'all is: which rebuild kit(5.7 4L60E) has worked best for someone who wants to pull the heads off and replace everything on a 20 year motor with 100k miles that will cause it to smoke or knock? I only want it to run like it did in '99 lol. The motor is on a stand in my garage and instead of throwing used parts at it and get the car moving, I have decided to do it right the first time. I will be using a Holley 302-1 pan and an aftermarket AC bracket due to clearance issues, but everything else will be stock......for now. I appreciate your time and wisdom. Y'all have helped me overcome many obstacles over the years.

I got the same advise. Come to think about it ive been working on these engines at the dealer and aftermarket shops for over 15 years. Not once have i seen an issue with the bottom end. Most failures i have seen have been valve train related. (broken valve spring, failed lifter, wiped cam, valve issue) Im sending my heads off to be worked, throwing in a cam, replacing all gaskets and and leaving the rest alone.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have asked which rebuild kits have worked best for all of you aluminum block guys. Head/valve cover/intake/front and rear seals/water gaskets. I’ve always been an old school guy building 350’s and 396’s to go back stock in our old cars. This will be my first LS swap and I’m looking for advice on which gasket or full kit has the best outcome. Thanks again for the replies.

I’ve personally bought 2 of these rebuild kits from WS6Store and they are legit. You can’t go wrong with them for a stock/mild rebuild.

Thank you. I’ve done some digging and the WS6 outfit seems to be the perfect choice for my plan.

I should probably post this elsewhere, but I am also looking for the best plug n play engine harness for 99 TA 5.7 4L60e. I have the stock harness, but it is damaged to an extent I would rather do the upgrade now than try to save this one. I’ve read plenty of threads, but I’m just seeing if anyone has any current positive/negative opinions on the popular brands that are producing them.

Honestly if it were me I would take that money your gonna dump on rebuilding the engine and put it towards a Holley terminator X system with transmission control.
Also from that picture it doesnt look very sludgy at all....???

pulled the valve covers. Thoughts? That harness setup you recommended looks to be the ****. I’m calling them tomorrow to see what’s what.

Thanks

That's a fairly clean engine. About what I'd expect for a 100k engine from someone who likely followed a 5000 mile OCI. If you just want a solid, reliable driver for the wife.........I don't even think I'd pop the heads off. Personally, I'd replace every seal/gasket/valve seal you can get to, maybe do an oil pump/o-ring while the pan is off, inspect timing set and all the rockers, then instal it and get it running. I'd then put a can of seafoam in it, idle it for a half hour, then let it set overnight and change the oil again the next morning and hand the keys to the boss. If you can, I'd pull all the rockers and shoot some air into each cylinder to check for seal, and leakdown. If that passes, clean it up, seal it up, and run it.

Thanks for the advice. The boss agrees lol. Only because you made it sound so easy 😂. And the CC won’t have that $700 charge on it.....yet. Thanks again for taking the time.

If you do decide to tear into it I've also used the @WS6store.com rebuild kit including their pistons. I'm over 500whp and it's working great.

Thanks for the good words guys!

As far as a plug and play harness, the psi conversions harness is a great option and the ebst part is using a stock computer that any tuner can work with. Dont stick yourself in the corner with the Terminator X setup. Its alot more than a stock style harness and most usually spend a bunch of money on it and never get it to run right.
