Default Head gasket heads up

I wanted to share this with you guys. I was assembling my engine last night and noticed the front coolant holes were possibly punch in the wrong location. Bare with me and I’ll explain. The gaskets in question are fel pro 1160r-041 and 1160L-041. 5.3 head gaskets .041 thick. The .051 seem to be in the same boat. I’ve been talking to fel pro a few times today and it appears the hole location is different than a factory gasket AND fel pro’s other gaskets. He’s trying to figure out if this hole being closed off is for a reason, but in my opinion, why make a hole.....but in the wrong spot? And factory gaskets are correct and so are their other gaskets. Honestly, it may even not make a difference....but on my boosted application I don’t want to leave any stone unturned. Yes I have the gaskets installed correctly. They only can go one way. I’ve tried em flipped, swapped side to side. Can’t go on any other way. This hole is on the front two cylinders at the bottom. Check back to see what the final outcome of this is, fel pro is contacting me back.

I think its because cylinder heads have holes there. Dunno why tho. I remember it being the same when I was putting mine together.

Went to a buddies shop this evening to pick up my head. While I was there, I showed him the pic and he had some fel pro gaskets there. The holes were in the same spot as mine. However, cometic and ls9’s he had were moved over and do not block the coolant jacket in the block. Check it. Pay special attention to how the hole is offset to the other side of the head bolt dowel hole.

So just hung up with fel pro. As far as we know right now, my gaskets are definitely stamped wrong. They are pulling all the gaskets in the warehouse to check and see how many were done like this. I guess is all of them since the design prints have the hole in the wrong spot. Now I’m in a bind for gaskets and I’m not sure what my next move is. He said he doesn’t think they can make me a set of gaskets and get them to me by the weekend.

Problems like this is why almost everyone uses LS9 gaskets and not Fel-Pro junk. Guys are running 7's on OEM gaskets, no need to reinvent the wheel.

That's what I would do, I don't see why it would cause any issues.
