Default 6.2 part on a 5.7

Good morning all!

so I just picked up a 2000 Camaro. Has drag car set up and plan to continue guiding it down that path.

Car currently has a 6.2 in it but the head gaskets went. Luckily guy has an all aluminum 5.7 for it sitting. Has a little piston slap but to get the car moving again we will put it in so I can play with it some.

my question is: Are there any parts off the 6.2 that would make sense to merge with that 5.7? I wasn’t sure if anything was compatible to give the most bang for the buck.

thanks in advance!
Cody

Piston slap is pretty common when the engine is cold. Every LS engine I've owned, (3 trucks and 2 cars) have done it for the first 30 seconds or so after start up. Goes away once it starts to warm up. I am not well versed in the 6.2 but I believe it has rectangle ports on the intake and heads. That being said, the heads and intake should bolt on to the 5.7. (though I'm not sure how good the setup would be). I'm pretty sure the headers would bolt right up as well. I think I would rather just change the head gaskets on the 6.2 though. It is a lot less work that dropping in a different engine, unless there was significant damage to the engine when the gaskets went.

Ive heard that as well about the piston slap hence why I’m not so worried. I’ll put pistons and rods in this next winter and start prepping her for boost.

from what I was told the 6.2 was a pooch and he is unsure how good of condition or what happened when the head gasket went. The 5.7 went pretty good and was in the 12s when it was pulled. I know the 6.2 has a good aftermarket cam in it I plan on pulling but didn’t know if the other parts were worth grabbing or leaving be

If nothing else, they can be sold. They aren't bad parts. I just don't think the heads are compatible with the gen 3 intakes and vice versa, meaning that you would have to change them as a unit.

6.2L square port heads won’t work on a 5.7. 4” bore or larger only.

I am assuming that also means the throttle body wont switch over either?

I figured thats a real easy one as it is bigger. figured do that and tune to e85 and let er rip!

Is this a turbo car?
LS2 intake will fit the larger TB.
Or just find a 3 bolt cable TB.

why aren’t you just fixing the 6.2?

You're pulling the engine because of a bad head gasket?

It isnt a turbo car... Yet!

Just for clarification the 6.2 Intake isnt the LS2 right?

And im not fixing the 6.2 partly due to the current owner wanting it back and he is unsure of the condition. But he is giving me whatever parts I want off of it. I am just unsure what parts are compatible.

The current owner wants it back and the shape is unknown. He put incompatible heads on it I believe he said as well
