Default undecided on heads/cam for TMS 383...

hello ... ok 1st off car is a 4l60e (yes i'll be upgrading to a monster built 4l60/65 within 8 months) 2002 trans am. 3600 yank stall, 3.73 gears, fully upgraded 10 bolt (yea i know but it's all i have for now! yukon axles, yukon diff, lpw diff cover & axle tube braces), 1&7/8th long tubes. motor is out (blown after 190k), all accessories off ready to go onto new motor and install. - now at 1st i was set on a 6.0 short block with prc 2.5 ls6 heads & titan 4, but have decided just to go with TMS fully forged 383 stroker so i don't have to do any harness/ecu mods & the other things involved with swapping a 6.0 into a 5.7 car (want to just re-use all of my accessories & ecu). - i would like to get trick flow fast as cast 220's, and go with a titan 4 cam. want to get Trick Flow Double platinum .660 LS Dual valve spring and retainer kit for the heads, & Morel 6504 lifters. from what i've read the titan 4 & these heads will work great together & are fairly easy to tune. --- its not a daily, but i still would like it to drive ok around town and be able to drive it 50 miles to the drag strip & home, & to car shows & events. ....is there a better heads & cam setup for this 383 motor that may net me any significant more quality power & still be able to be tuned well enough to have decent street manners (i'll spend 1500-2300ish on heads but really don't wanna spend 3k+ on heads)? this car will always be na - i just want a good motor that can last me 60-80k miles if i take care of it & aren't beating on it every day. it may see around 350-500 miles a month. ...also about how much power should i make (whp/tq) ?

I made 448 wrhp with my 383 with trickflow 220s heads , 4l60e with an 3600 yank stall ,

and an 242/250 tsp cam , car ran like crap , then I installed an 227/240 tick stage 2 blower cam the car ran a lot better, felt a lot faster, hasn’t been on they dyno yet , I would recommend calling cam motion up and having them spec an can for ya ,

What compression number are you gonna shoot for? It will make a difference here.

nothing outrageous - 11.3-ish? I'm sure I'll talk to both cam motion and TMS b4 the build, but I like getting knowledgeable input off of you guys here and would like to have the best plan ready b4 calling either

Personally I would pick the cam then mill for compression. If 91, stop at 11.5. If 93, stop at 12.3.

Cam should be something in the 228-234 range intake and 234-238 range exhaust. With those heads I would be thinking 232/236 type specs.

Figure it on a 113+3 LSA, then get compression to 11.8 if you have 93.

If you run a smaller cam with earlier IVC, donless compression your compensate.

well, i am willing to always have 100 octane on hand and mix accordingly to have 93 in the tank (pumps here in cali are 91 or 100 & i'm not interested in running 100), so i'd be willing to get the heads milled for 11.8-12.3 compression, if that would net me 10 or so more hp & tq running the 93 regularly with the higher compression ?dont wanna go crazy but am willing to sacrifice some driveability for a bit more quality use-able power. as long as its not bucking hard in parking lots, not dying on me, not overheating after 30 min of driving & i can cruise on the highway i'm good. i mean, i want to be able to take it where i want with minimal hassle, that being said it's literally an extra car i could drive as minimal as i choose. i WOULD like to make 465ish hp & tq, and possibly hit 11.1-11.3 in the 1/4 mile.... i mean am i right in choosing the tfs 220's, or will 225's be a better, option for the 383? and yes i've decided to have cam motion custom spec me a cam to go with whatever heads and hopefully have them & tms communicate with each other

You could do a 234/238-114+4 and 11.7:1 compression on 93 octane. I would use the TFS 220 heads. For just a bit more, there are porters you can work with on those heads to really make them shine. great valve job, etc. I would expect to clear 470 torque with that recipe. HP would be mostly determined by the RPM it peaks at.

If you stick with straight 91, which is the safe call, I would run 232/236-113+3 and 11.3 compression ratio. Then, if you ever run into a situation where you have no choice but to get 91, you can run it safely.

As to what it runs at the track, you can do low 11's without a 383. So the performance there is as much about your chassis as it is the motor.

The MMS (Mamo MotorSports) 223 Cylinder heads start out as TFS 220 as cast and Tony
works a little magic (hand blending Ports and chambers before adding his custom valve job
and they wind up flowing/performing pretty close to his fully CNCd MMS220s (AFR Castings) at a
considerable savings.

The Darth spec 234/238 would tune and drive EXTREMELY WELL with a 3000+ stall and
3.73 gears, I would probably add +2* to the exhaust with those Heads so 234/240
would drive great in a 4" stroke 383.
just my .02
