Hylift Johnson 2148SE
Chipper of metal, sounds like you got it to a satisfactory result.
FYI, I did watch the videos, cell phone captures the worst of the noise for sure.
No doubt your truck is much quieter (Exhaust) than my vette. And the Vette has a fast intake on it, amplifies valve train noise like a loud speaker.
Vette is so much quieter than it was, it's amazing. Been 7000 no issues.
And it's way faster than it was.

Lifters should not tick at all
Metalchipper, what is your preload set at now? If it were me, I would remeasure with a pushrod checker on a few cylinders. Get my average number and add .030, order that pushrod. Something tells me you are off somewhere

The preload is .035"-.040", checked with a dial indicator on top of the push rod end of the rocker. I have an extra set of rocker pivot supports so I might try to mill the bottom down
.020" which should give me about .024" more preload. Or mill .025" off and get about .030" more preload and see how it sound before ordering longer push rods.
Question for the cam experts? It is a Cam Motion custom order with soft closing ramps----- but at Intake duration of 210 at .572" and Exhaust dur. 214 at .562" lift make for a noisy cam? I heard that small duration and high lift make more noise. But I do not know if I would call .56" high lift, the noise is on the exhaust side with a stethoscope.
Thanks
I finally have the lifters quieted down. Before they would not get quiet until the engine reached full operating temperature, now when about 25 degrees they are quiet. I waited for colder weather to see what would happen before updating.
I milled some extra support rails. I was aiming for -.020” but the first one I milled was .009” thinner than the 2nd one so I ended up with taking off .029.” Which changed the preload from .040” to .074”. There is .080” more plunger travel left in the lifter.
As far as the rocker geometry is concerned, I think it is OK. Going from the stock cam----0.457”/0.466” lift to 0.572” / 0.562” should put the rocker closer to the center pivot point. There is minimum .050” clearance between the rocker and spring retainer.
So that is the end of the story.
Perhaps their .020-.040” is simply incorrect.
I’ve also read that dyno tests show more hp and tq with more preload vs less.
Glad you got it sorted.
